Hello all,
I checked the ID numbers stamped on my block,and it showed that it is the original block.An L48.There is also another set of newer stamped numbers,V02200HB.So I am assuming that the motor was rebuilt at some point.My question being,is this a standard practice buy rebuilders.And would this have any effect on the originality of the car?Thanks as always!!!

You don't give the year, etc, but the numbers you post: V02200HB are the assembly date and suffix.

V = Flint engine plant
02 = February
20 = 20th of the month

OHB?? Don't know. CHB shows for a 75 350CI 165HP with automatic trans.

Could is be CHB instead of OHB? Is your car a 75? Chuck

If the stamping is actually V0220CHB and not OHB, this is additional confirmation that this may be the original engine.

It translates as: V = Flint engine plant where the engine was assembled. 0220 = Feb 20th (the day it was stamped) and CHB for 1975 L48 with Turbo 400 trans, non California spec.

This stamp was done PRIOR to the VIN derivitive which was added to the engine stamp pad at St. Louis.

This all assumes that these are the original markings and not restamps. Hope this helps.

Well thanks guys,yes I probably misread the C for an 0.I didn't know that there would be two stamps from GM.You guys hit it dead on.The car has 85,000 miles on the odometer.I have no reason to think that the mileage would be off.This is good news to me knowing exactly just what I do have,although it shows that my motor has a lot of miles on it.Much thanks for all your help!!!!
