Has anyone fitted one of these to their C4 ? I have just replaced my original optispark with one, and am curious about the performance of the part ? What effect does advancing or retarding the timing have on the engine/running of the car ? I have left it at the factory setting.
Oh and what other parts or brands are people using to replace their optispark when the water pump eventually kills it ? Thanks in advance.

I am thinking to buy this myself. Are you happy with it and did you install it yourself?

Steve

I have driven about 1000 miles since fitting the part and have to say I am delighted with it.. she is smoother at WOT, particularly the higher revs 4000 and beyond (the pro billet part is designed to handle up to 10,000rpm i believe) Surprisingly, she also seems smoother at low revs; parking manouevres, town driving etc.. although I should say that at the same time I also replaced the spark plugs (with OE) and plug wires just as a precaution. I am comparing it here with how she drove before my optispark started to give up the ghost- when i had no problems with the car at all.. and it is definitely better now. Though i can't say for sure which part has caused the improvement.. I would definitely recommend fitting this Steve, if you love your vette she deserves this !! I think it is well worth the extra few hundred dollars over the standard distributors..
Best of luck whatever you decide anyway!
BTW, is yours still the original part ? And is your water pump still fine ?? Mine survived untill 61,000 miles, i think the last 6000 in irish weather were the killers!

Thanks. I will replace mine with MSD :-) Still have the original and the water pump works fine but have ordered new MSD spark wires and thinking of replacing the coil and the optispark with MSD and when first doing the fiddle replace the waterpump in the same go (might go for a electric pump when doing so). The car only have 50 000 miles and are very much cared for so i dont care much over the cost. Never use the car if there is wet outside, have a Tahoe i use for dirty jobs.

Regards,
Steve

Hi Steve, did you replace those parts yet? Which water pump did you go for? And how does the car run now? I have covered another 4000 miles in mine and she is bulletproof, glad I spent the money on the right parts for her! By the way, to answer your previous question, I didn't install any of the parts myself as there is an american guy living about an hour away from me who worked on corvettes for ten years in New York, there isn't a part of these cars he has not replaced or serviced so mine is in good hands!

For purposes of information, I have covered at least 5000 miles since fitting the Pro Billet distributor, and have no complaints whatsoever. Particularly satisfying is hearing how smooth the LT1 now revs right to redline at WOT or hard acceleration (which I do regularly, every other journey, while listening for even the slightest disruption or variation in its melody:D) -faultless.. and a very obvious improvement over the performance of the Optispark which it replaced (even considering how it ran before it began its long drawn out death rattle) The MSD part also looks savage, like race equipment, its alluminium sides gleaming in the engine compartment :)

Sorry for answering late.

I have most parts in the garage and this is kind of my winter job. Last winter was bad, cold like never before so i did not spend much time doing anything in the garage. I just brought myself a kerosin heater to be prepared if this happens again (Global warming ???????, not in Norway). So hopefully i replace the whole ignition the coming winter. Spark wires, Coil, 6 AL, Plugs and Opti. Waterpump new in the same go + fuel filter.

Did you have any problems after your install? Some claim to have problems with codes and instruments, think it is the RPM gauge and have to add on a part of some kind.

Regards,
Steve

^The "adding" of the part, i imagine, is the retrofitting of the vacuum lines, which isnt a big deal, just drilling a small hole in the intake neck right before the TB and the fitting of one of the lines to a vacuum line on the side of your intake manifold.

I recently did a full blown ignition tune up on my '94 which included: MSD Distributor, MSD Blaster Coil, Moroso 8mm Spark Plug Wires, and ACDelco Spark Plugs.

Car used to have an itermittent missfire and knock problem, this remedied the situation, runs smooth. Be careful when installing the distributor, 2 big things to pay attention to: 1)Try not to get any liquid on it 2)Be sure to install it in the proper position (lining up the index teeth, which requires some patience)
