My 68 vette?? how many ci/hp??? serial # 3970010

I don't know what kind of motor my 68 vette has. 3970010 is the # stamped on the engine. 3927184 is stamped on the head.
Any info would be greatly appreciated!!!

Shelby, that block # could be from a 1969 350cu in. Two hp ratings are assigned to that #: 300, and 350. Other years used that block also: 70 through 79 also used it. Are you sure about the head #? Could the last digit be wrong?

That block #, 3970010, was used from 69 through '80 as a 350ci in all types of chevys, including trucks. To tell what you have, need the numbers off of the stamp pad (a machined surface on the block in front of the passanger side head). Should be two numbers stamped (not cast) there. Post them and we can maybe tell what the engine was originaly. Also post the casting date (other side from the block casting #).

I cannot find a listing for a head # 3927184. Can find 185, 186, 187, 188, but not 184.
