Been there, but my car was visually beautiful. My summary lies below, but be prepared for MANY more issues if you try to do the BB. If you choose forced induction, ensure your engine components are chosen with that in mind. You can 'blow' any motor, but where ya going to get fuel for a turbo/super-charged mouse, already at 10+:1 compression?
My engine experts asked me what I was going to do with the car. THEN, we proceeded to choose the best path. Turns out, building a 406 was cheaper than doing the crate thing. I had considered, and really wanted, another RAT motor, but smog rules, weight (unless I sprung for aluminum block) and fitting it to the car with proper in/out plumbing ruled it out quickly.
The stroker engines referred to above have nearly the same stroke (low end grunt) as a Rat and you will find that the current technology will deliver as big a smile, with less overall pain, than the old stuff did. My memory says that my LS-6 crate pushed my modded '71 like none other, but my current package is probably faster!
