my 98 problems, problems.. :( reduced engine power & service traction system...

where should i even begin...
1) Needed new battery...
2) Service Column Lock (at a gas station)
3) Took dealer 2.5 weeks to fix the problem
then i read it can happen again... :(
4) Fuel Gage Problems (still exist they couldnt fix it)
5) Reduced Engine Power & Service Traction System...
6) Had it at the dealership a week... they said they replaced the fiberoptics module and then i took it and it happened again.
7) Now said it had 4" of water in the computer... how???
8) Have it home and it happened agian on the way home?

9) what do you think?

8 its too much of a hassle to own this car.

1998 red metallic convirtable & only has 45k miles...

I think you should find a dealer that has a Vette mechanic, I think they are feeding you BS, ask on the forum for a dealer near you that works on Vettes. Good luck Jim.

been taking it to

Naperville, IL Chevrolet... they have 1 vette techs..

Common Problem. Look on the bright side at least you will be the one to replace it, make sure you use an optima. Otherwise you could be like me and have the cheapo replacement someone else installed explode, and I mean explode, at a gas station.

So that could be worse. :)

2) Service Column Lock (at a gas station)

My car already had the bypass installed.

4) Fuel Gage Problems (still exist they couldnt fix it)

Mine only flakes out between 7/8 and 5/8 of a tank.. go figure. At any other level works fine once I clear the codes.

Clear the codes and you will probably find it is an intermittant problem. You don't have to see the dealer for that most likely.

The air conditioner drain valve is clogged, causing it to back up into the passenger floorboard where one of the computers is located.

The outlet is on the firewall, passenger side, I believe it is a piece of rubber bent on a 45 degree angle. Clean it out regularly to prevent this.

All common problems. A mechanic should know this stuff by default. Too bad not all mechanics do.

Best of luck with your car, trust me once you get all the little ticks worked out of it, you will love it.

Talked with service tech this morning

and they said they did the checking and replacing the air conditioner drain valve yesterday and when i drove it home with the top (no air) down and it did the same "reduced engine power service traction system" and then i turned it off and on a few times and it went away... now later in the night last night I went to go out and had the air on this time and with in 1 minute it did it again... and when i turned it on and off it didnt go away this time... so i just drove it to the dealer... talked with the dealer manager and at least he is aware of it now. and now the tech is saying it might be a corroded wires? any other suggestions? please? :( this is so frusterating :(

What i was told today

well i got my phone call from the service manager a few minutes ago 4:47pm and he stated the PCM is fine, and that today they found water in the Air Filter, TPS Switch and on the engine... They said that they were going to look for some scratched wires or a open wire by the throttle circuit... and tomorrow were going to use a Accellerator monitor moter to run some tests against my vette... I dont know what any of this means... also said that currently they are at a standstill untill tomorrow... any thoughts, suggestions?

just my random thoughts... wouldnt it still have to be a leak somewhere from the airconditioner to get some water into the air filter?

I had the same "reduced power service traction control" problem and did another member of my club. In both cases it was a defective accelerator pedal assemby. After replacement, it never happened again (four years ago). The tech at my local Chevy dealer found it immediately using the computer. Good luck.

Hi there,
It would sound to me that you have a few things.
First, the wiring should be checked where it passes behind the drivers side fuel rail, as it may be rubbing through, creating this condition.
Second, you could also check for codes, and they would help us help you.
If you like, you can run all tests in about 15 mins, so be cautious.
Allthebest, and please keep us posted, c4c5:hb
