My baby got hit !!

ad I am extremely upset!! An Elderly gentleman hit me twice!! while in the drive through of the bank...he hit me once and I gues he got nervous and and instead of reversing his car, he pushed on the gas and hit me again!!!

No major serious damage...but he bent the rear of the car where the license plate goes...( I will post pics tommorrow)...he also hit my exsaust and ebnt one of the pipes....He says he has insurance and I will call them tommorow... I think that they should replace the whole rear of the car...am I exagerating?? Does this impact the value of my car??? Does any one have any advice?

As far as how much should be replaced? Wait until morning when there is better light and take a look. And for value... that can also depend upon on how much damage is put into the report from the insurance company. But if you are worried about the value of the car now, does that mean you are already thinking of selling it?

First of all... calm down. Deep breaths. I know you want to vent, but trust me, six months from now this will be the type of story you laugh about with friends over drinks. It will be okay. The important thing is not to give into the temptation to panic.

As Ripp said, we are here to help! I mean that, and it's important that you believe that.

Now, post some pics of what happened when you get the chance, and give us some descriptions of the damage as you can percieve it. Also, when you get an insurance adjuster to take a look, let us know what the adjuster says. Let us be the dispassionate advisors who can comment "from an objective distance." I know this is an emotional and frustrating experience, and I know you want to punch a hole in the wall over what happened. But we need you to set that aside if we are going to give you any useful advice. Trust me... a few relaxation exercises now, and some detailed information about the extent of the damage, and we'll have some useful gems of information for you.

It's the inside that counts!

Learned from experience that the expensive items are in your bumber! Make sure that your body shop looks underneath to see if anything is amiss.

Like your rear impact system. Look for crease's or bulges on bth sides of your car that took the impact.

Remenber it's fiberglass and it will absorb the shock probably up until the rear quarter panels end.

Make sure your rear glass opens and shuts properly.

It's things that you do not see that worry me.

Yeah you should be alright. Just a minor Bump. New Exhaust and a new bumper i would say and you should be good to go. Kingman is right though damage can be hidden.

Did you file a police report???? if you did, it will go on record as being a car that was in an accident,, if someone runs a Car-Fax on it, it will show up...check the underside as some one has already mentioned....

Thanks for all the replys...I did file a police report but I never plan to sell her...however I am interested in it retaining its value...the guys insurance was kind of rude to me today ..so... I will demand a new rear bumper, new exhaust, and I will make a big deal about it now showing up in a carfax as crashed....I was actually real nice to the insurance agent.. I think he thought he could bully me...boy is he in for a surprize...

I noticed that the rear lights are loose so I will also ask for that new and a new lettering kit for the back.

Let me warn you, you will not know anything until you remove the rear fascia from the car.

A teenage girl bumped into my 4 month old C5 and you could hardly tell it from the rear. After the fascia and impact foam were removed, the damage was evident.

Let me tell ya, the foam doesn't give, the steel impact beam it's mounted to does! See the pics for proof.

Good luck, I'd make 'em pull it off and check.

First of all, take stock in the fact that this was a minor accident and you are still okay.

I think it's a good thing that you filed a Police Report. You need to get a copy of that and the other driver's insurance information to your agent as quickly as possible. Now, be careful about "demanding" that the insurance company start fixing things. Before you start arguing with an insurance company, you need to get a claims adjuster to take a long look at the car- including what may not be immediately visable. In short, you need to know exactly what the extent of the damage is, and to that, as has been already said, you may very well need to remove the fascia to find out the whole story.

Only when you have all those details can you and your insurance company start demanding things from the other driver's insurance provider.

Bluecoupe is right in 10 or 20 years it will not matter if it was hit,only that it was repaired the right way! I had a 2002 roadster m.yellow and had my son take it for an oil change at the dealer and at a stop light a rice burner slammed into him! Had the dealers body shop repair it and the burner driver paid them in full. I did replace it with my current vette but not because of that. The dealer did such a great job you would never know anything ever happened. Fix and enjoy and wave.

My condolences

I can sympathize with you Silver97. I just posted a thread myself about a near miss I had yesterday. But unlike your situation the other driver was careless, stupid and irresponsible when he intentionally darted across the street in front of me.

The important thing here is that no one was hurt. I would agree with Patrick that deep breathing is in order and then involve your insurance agent to see to it your baby is brought back to perfect condition.

Take her to a reputable body shop and post here for advice and updates to keep us informed of the situation.

Thank you all for the advice, I guess I was lucky I was hit in the U.S. and not in Mexico ( that is where I do much of my driving)... The adjuster is supposed to come in today to look at the car...I will take it to the dealership for them to fix it...do you think the other guys insurce should provide me with a rental???

I will keep you posted and make sure that they check the inside of the car for any other damage.
