Hi Guys,
Some of you my know me, But I am here because i have a corvette addiction!
I already have a 1980 black C3 and a 1994 Polo Green C4. Well thursday when I was on my way to fun fest I found a 1985 Red C4 for sale, and long story short it followed me home....LOL
for a 29 yr old corvette it is in good condition considering the high miles it has (275,000) engine runs strong, body in perfect condition, paint has a few issues but over all a great find. I only paid $2800 for it. I plan to get the few issues that the car has and turn it over to my daughter when she turns 18 in 1 1/2 yrs.
The glas top is cracked but found a hard top in red at fun fest swap meet for $100 bucks and got it.
but the biggest issue is the dash cluster. you can read it during the day (but it is a bit dim) but at night the dash is dark and you cant read anything. Any Ideas???
Thanks.
Heres the Pics before you all ask...LMAO

There are four bulbs that provide the dash cluster back lighting.
A very common problem is the internal connector that joins the two circuit boards together and provides the circuit path to the bulbs develops a high resistance. Solution is to replace the connector or use a piece of wire and jump around the bad connector pin.

The day time back lighting brightness of the dash cluster is determined by the photocell. Shine a flashlight on the photo cell in the top left corner of the dash bezel. Dash should brighten. Cover the photo cell with your finger and dash should dim.

When the headlight switch is in Park or Head, dash brightness is a combination of the photocell and the dimmer switch position. The symptom you describe could be caused by a blown INST LPS fuse.

BATEE.COM - 1984 - 1996 C4 Corvette Electronics Repair Services, Parts and DIY has repair videos and replacement parts for the dash cluster.
