I need some help, I heard a knocking sound coming from my engine so I took it to a Chevy dealer and they said it sounds like a crank or rod bearing so I call my warranty rep, I bought an extended warranty for the car since I bought it used two years ago, it's a 2000 Chevy corvette with 36,000 mi. and he said he will send an adjuster out to hear the car, the adjuster agreed with the tech that it sounds like a crank or rod bearing, so they rip the engine down, but here's the thing they can't seem to find the problem so they said they have to dig deeper into the engine so they pulled the pistons out, the heads off, they still can't locate the problem and my warranty co. said there not paying for it because they can't produce a failed part and I have to pay for it, what can I do? this doesn't seem fair, my car has been there for two weeks already, do I tell them to put it back together with the old parts or new ones, like main bearings rod bearings piston rings ect....

(bump)

Zimol,
I don't have an answer for your question, but I did want to make sure your post didn't drift down the forum far enough to avoid detection from anyone who may have an answer.

I don't unfortunatly, but I was wondering, did you end up swallowing the price or did you make the warranty company pay?

This Is Insane

Did they replace anything or put the same parts back in, bearings, rings etc? I don't get it, something is very wrong here.

i paid because no failed part was produced, they put new rod bearings, seals, gaskets spark plugs, coolant, r134 freon, filter, oil 5w30 and head bolts, that was about it.

And It Still Knocks...

How's the oil pressure? You still have the warranty? If so, start it up cold and hold your right foot to the floor, they'll find the faulty parts. This really bothers me, I'm not trying to be sarcastic but I wouldn't settle for that. Keep us posted, I'll try to think of someone I'd recommend here in NJ for you to look at it.

I agree! Plant your right foot into the floorboard, have it towed, tell them you were cruising at 70mph and the thing blew! Your warranty will work. Good luck and take pics.after the smoke clears in your garage!!

That might work for a 2000 year model but the newer models have the "black box" now. I don't know for sure that the vettes have them but a lot of other vehicles do. Not sure when they started putting those in. Anybody have the scoop on this? Are these separate computers or have they always been able to pull rpms and speed data from the OBDII? They could certainly tell it was a over revving situation and at the very least say you were racing which voids the warranty.

Had a police officer killed in a car wreck here a week ago and the highway patrol released their report and said that data from the vehicle (04 Mustang) indicated he had been traveling at a speed of 95 mph before the impact with the deer but was going 45 at the time of the crash.

I agree that your particular situation is not good. If you can lock it up and get them tocover it then do it!
