Nagging question

I received a message the other day which I cannot disclose and the message had a picture of a white 1981 coupe with red interior, judging from the picture, it looked in pretty good shape. The person stated the engine was the carburetor type so a tune up would probably be needed.

My question(s) are this, the same message stated that this car had been purchased in 1982 and basically kept in a garage here in the south all of this time since purchased, car has not been driven. The car has 27,000 original miles and they wanted $13,000.00.

Now what would some of you think, would this be a good deal or a bit questionable? I think of seals, tires etc and possible other issues from setting.

I just have this nagging question in my head about whether this would be a good deal, sort of like when one gets a certain tune in their head,

So what are some comments?

Thanks

GM didn't make convertibles in 1981, so this must be an aftermarket conversion. I'd want a well qualified person to check the car over 100% before even thinking about price.

If the conversion was not well done you couldn't pay me to tow it to the junkyard.

The last year of factory convertibles was 1975.

If you really are in the market for purchasing another Vette, then I would just recommend to you to visually see the car in person. Some L81's with low mileage sell for $16k - $20k dollars, so it could be a great deal; however, perhaps you could ask for and use the assistance from willing CAC member(s) that live(s) close to the area for the vehicle in question, so that you can really judge the condition of the Vette. At any rate, you'll still have to show-up in person and see the Vette for yourself.

The L81 was the first Federal version Corvette to be sold with a computer controlled carburetor. The 1980 Corvette California version was the first Corvette to have a computer-controlled closed loop fuel management system (I believe that it also controlled emmisions and converter lock-up like the 1981 model). So this Vette for sale would have a Rochester Quadra-Jet carburetor model E4ME.
