The good news: Took a Honda motorcycle from a light today; a late model, good sized, but I didn't see the model. My grin made my eyes squint too much!

Bad news: the dyno only showed 311 peak HP at the rear wheels. The tests were done in fourth gear, no O/D, at full throttle, on a DynoJet. Two 'experts' say their seat-o-meter feels more like 370-380.

My Corvette expert is one of the above and says there are variations in dynos and the set-up, calibration and operation makes the numbers vary. He claims my car will easily run with modified ZR-1's that he has worked, which dyno at 375 RWHP.

Thoughts??

Mike,

Welcome to my world of SHOCK and disapointment as experienced in front of a huge crowd when I had my 69 on the dyno in BG. You are making 1 more hp than mine showed on a Mustang mobil dyno. Hmm, at 468 cid, RPM cam, speed pro 9.6:1 pistons, Edelbrock Aluminum heads, valves big enough to suck a small bock through, air gap manifold, 2" plus PRIMARY tubes on the headers, and multi port fuel injection (can you say about $12,000 in parts on my engine), I was a little sick to my stomach toooooo.

In fact, Edelbrock flywheel dynoed my exact engine combo at 539 and claimed the EFI would easily squeak another 10-15% on top of that. I swear to you it feels it in the seat of the pants when I drive it.

You mentioned something in another thread about expecting 550 hp at the flywheel, but you had not dynoed it yet. When I read that, I thought to myself..."man, I hope he does not set himself up for a big disapointment", as I and even Ken have exerienced just such shock and amazement.

You have to take your hat off to the technology, and power packed into the new LS1 engines, as people are getting more RWHP out of them than we are on modified engines.

Good luck with that!

69MyWay, what are your torque numbers? and what RPM is everything happening? They dialed in your gear ratios right? something sounds fishy with your dyno

They did not dial in my gear ratio, measure my tires, or ask any other questions about the car.

We conducted the test in 4th gear which is one to one on that trans.

All my big numbers happened at the very start of the test and RPM band. Basically I was putting out 400 ft lbs of torque, and my peak hp at about 2,500 rpm, then it went to heck from there indicating like 175 hp at 5,000 RPM. It did about the same on all three pulls.

I think we found the problem then.... Did they hook up your engine's computer to theirs? If they didn't they couldn't even tell what RPM your engine was running... Even though they know how fast the dyno is going, they can't tell what RPM because they don't know what rear-end you have....

Imagine a truck with 4X4 and 4Lo (and for the sake of argument, this truck is only RWD) If the truck was put on the dyno in its low gear setting, it would rev straight to the redline, but the dyno would be hardly moving at all... If the dyno is hardly moving, and they didn't put in the gear ratio to compensate the calculation, the truck would probably dyno worse than a Honda Civic...

Basically, don't lose faith in your engine... That dyno operator probably owns a Mustang... if you ever see him on the road, show him what your 175 hp looks like... LOL

They did connect to a plug wire in order to determine RPM.

Yep, that is the strongest 175 hp I have ever felt!!!!!!!!!!

It did top out around 125 mph on the dyno which is also what I have topped it out on the street hitting redline!

This dyno was provided by Breathless performance. We all go the impression that if you were not there to buy any mods from them (which they had nothing to offer the C3 guys) that you would never put any power out on the dyno.

I am a little sour grapes, but I noticed how they would strap on a stock C5, put out like 270 rwhp, then bolt on the air intake and a few other mods, strap it back on, and turn out 360 rwhp.

Oh well.

marketing at its best? I was tempted to put my car on their dyno during the Ecklers show.... now I am glad I didn't
