Well. it has been raining almost 2 days straight. This is the most rain I have seen in quite awhile and have never had this happen before. I have a 92, and it has sat for almost 2 days. I go to drive it today and I have water pouring on to the passenger floorboard as soon as I move the car. It started when I moved the car. I'd say a pint or so at max. It was like a stream coming from the very far right corner at the kick panel.

This is clean rain water, NOT a heater core leak. Whatever dumped, dumped and that was all. I cleaned it all up, but car is mint and I want to keep it that way. I'm thinking a drain or soemthing is clogged. I'm not real sure.

Any ideas?
Thanks
Steve

Not an uncommon occurence Steve, but seeing as how your car is mint, I'll let someone else handle the possibles causes/fixes. ;)

Well... Ken..she's not 100% showroom mint, but pretty darn close for a 10 year old car with some miles... I just don't want the water thing to be a regular occurance. I'll do whatever it takes. (WATER = smell... eventually if it's bad enough.) I love this car and want to keep it clean (garage is not an option right at the moment, at least not for a little while)

This is the first time I've had this happen.

I looked up front in the cowl vents and didn't see any water puddling up there or any blockage that is visible, although it may be gone from there after the water hit the floor. I've tried searching the forums and couldn't find too much info.

Nah, I don't think there's too much on this subject except that it happens. ;)

There are several methods for determining the source of the water intrusion:
  • smoke gun
  • powder gun
  • sound detector
  • chalking seals
  • "wetting out" of door glass
  • paper strip pressure test
  • pressurizing passenger compartment
  • combinations of all of the above

The step-by-step procedures for checking potential leak areas take up several pages of the service manual, which won't scan very well...

Well, let's see...

Man, I'm a lazy son-of-a-gun! I scanned all five pages for you rather than have to type everything. If you can't read it (and I know you won't be able to) please don't hesitate to ask for specifics. ;)

WOW!!! Thanks Ken! :) I really appreciate all the info. Looks like I got some troubleshooting to do.

Are these tests just for coupes? My brother-in-law has a 1996 convert that leaks on the drivers side. carpet under the dash is wet.

If you dont find the water anywhere else check the evaporator drain. Crud got down in mine and after it rained a lot water ran in the passenger side.
I was lucky enough to get it out by blasting it out from the cowl vent opening with a nozzle on the hose.

There are these crazy looking rubber tubes coming off the upper cowl on each side of the car. They point down out of the cowl back behind/next to the area where the hood latch portion is attached to the firewall/cowl.

Pich the rubber tube near the bottom and see if it is crunch/full of crud.

Clean that out.

I had water pouring into the 90, and went through all the "standard" tests. I could not solve it. It turned out that the drain tube was plugged just enough that water could back up and run into the cowl.

See if that helps!

Good luck.
