Hi

My 96LT1 horns are working properly but they sound like they belong on a Yugo.

What can be done to change the horns?

l'm so ashamed by the loudness, l never use them.

HELP

Alan

You can always go for air horns...they sell a kit with a pump and a couple air horns.

LOUD!

Go to a junk yard or parts house and get a set of Cadillac horns. These don't say 'excuse me' they say 'MOVE IT!'

If you can visit a Chevy dealer, try sounding the horn of a new Impala. They are loud and say: GET OUTTA MY FACE!!!!!!!

I agree the Cadillac horns are YEEOUCH! Im getting a set for mine as well.

Think your horns are embarrassing, huh?
Mine sounded like gnat farts coming outta some foreign doodlebug!!!
My REPLACEMENTS are of a different note than the stock 'F'- loud w/out causing the in-my-way-driver to have a stroke. Try Eckler's-they sell a "high note" replacement for $23.99.
I tried air horns. OH MY GOD!!!
Scared myself :eek the first time I used em.
I sold them to a friend of mine, who rocketed past me on the interstate a few days ago, blasted those fog horns at me and I nearly had a stroke!
Good luck!

Eckler's it is!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks

Alan

?????????????????????????????????????

Hi

Before l order a pair of replacement horns from Eckler's, how hard is it to switch horns????

Thanks

Alan

Kingman,
Those high note replacement horns are direct fits-just not stock. Just disconnect your negative battery cable first, take out the old ones, then bolt on and plug in the new ones. Blare away!

If you don't have the '03 Spring/Summer catalog #: 203, you can order on-line. Here's the info:

1955-1996 Replacement Horns
#40446 '55-'96 "F" Note------------------------ $26.99
#30824 '55-'96 High Note--------------------- $23.99
*Same day processing add--------------------- $3.95
*C.O.D --------------------- $7.95

Stock GM "A" note replacements where I am are about $120-$130!!! Sound about the same to me.
Hope this helps.

Actually, I got 2 new GM Universal horns, I think the my 89 was F and A but some newer then 89 vettes are F and C. I now have the F and C universal horns and they are much louder then original, I think I only paid $25~ for each one From GM

EDIT.. I saw the 'A' note in the Mid America Catalog for around $26.99

Thanks again

Now just to make it clear, the high note is louder then the F note, is this correct? And l need two, not one.

Alan

yes the higher note is not F.

you need 2 horns, one 'F' and one 'higher'

Which horn to order??

Hi
It seems that the driver's side horn is not working at all and the passenger side works just fine.

Question can l replace only one?

Is the driver's side the high note?

Does it make a difference which horn is installed, either the high note or the other one (f note).

If l disconnect the negative battery, will it hurt the car? This might seem like a dumb question, but l would hate to make a mistake.

Thanks

Alan

Yes you can replace just the bad one

I don't remember, it is a 13mm socket to remove the horn, there will be a letter designating if it is a 'F' or 'A' or 'C' (I think 'C' is the other one)

Having the 2 tones sound better, one tone sounds crappy in my opinion

It won't hurt anything it will just reset all the fuel stufff and radio stations.

Also if you have the Electronic A/C it will re calibrate when the key is first turned on.

Almost there!!

Just thinking, what if l just pull the fuse for the horn's. This would be easier then taking off the neg cable from the battery?

Also the high note horn on the passenger's side is working and the horn on the griver's side is dead.

Should l still replace it with a high note or just instal the F note??

It looks like there is only one bolt holding the horn and an electrical plug that attaches to the horn. Am l missing anything?

yeah you could do that.. there is no power applied at the horns until you press the horn button anyway

If it ain't broke don't fix it. I don't think you need to replace the working horn.

You got it :upthumbs

Thanks for all of the help. Now l can order the horn from eckler's.

Even though it is the F note (driver's side), l'm going to order the high note unless you think it will sound better with the F note.

I think a dual tone horn sounds better then a non-dual tone..

Good Point.

Thanks Jeff
