I've talked to several of you in the past about lifts for my garage, well my 04 Z06 commemorative will be delivered tomarrow and I am ordering a lift so I thought I'd see one more time what you all are happy with.
My wall opening width is 117 in wide so I'm thinking of finding a narrow unit.
Thanks Jim

Barry,
So does my wife!!!
Its funny, when I got married my wife told me 2 kids per husband, now I'm telling her 2 corvettes per husband..She didnt like that..
Can't wait till it gets here.

Herb,
I know what you have, but was looking for a narrower unit like around 105inches wide, its going to be tight with the eagle unit.Hope things are going together well for you. Jim

Good luck with your search.....things go in spurts, when I get into something that I need to figure out, I get slowed down...like now the brake lines, but I am sorting out the issues and will be back in firstgear going to 5th gear soon.....

My Cytech Double-Park (www.doublepark.net) is 100" wide from outside of column to outside of column; I have the power unit offset to the front (vs. the standard side-mount), which only adds about 3" in width at that corner.

JohnZ,
are you you happy w/your lift, and if I can ask how much you paid.
Also how did you have it delivered,I've heard they are difficult to get off loaded. Thanks Jim

I bought it six years ago, for about $1K more than they go for these days (competition has really brought the prices down). They delivered it completely assembled on a special trailer they used to take assembled lifts to car shows; just put the caster kit on it, lowered it to the ground, rolled it into the garage, set it down on its feet, tweaked the cable adjustments for level, haven't touched it since. Great lift, U.S.-made, well-engineered, well-finished, not a sharp edge or corner anywhere; I've had it up and down probably 200 times since, just lubricate the pulleys and lock rod shafts once a year.

I just happened to catch them as they were delivering another assembled lift to the Street Rod Nationals on their special truck, and they added mine on their special trailer.

JohnZ,
Thanks for the info.I just talked to the owner of the co. and he quoted me $3400.00.That does'nt include the caster kit or the alum. ramps or delivery. It sounds like he's struggling staying in bussiness, prob. cause Eagle is selling thier lift for $1900.00 and that includes casters/alum. ramps.
But its not Amer. made and I dont think its near the quality. I sure like the looks of yours much better/and its only 103 in. wide.
Decisions-decisions....

Even though the lift comes highly recommended, if he has trouble competing with the PRC-manufactured lifts, you have to stop and think about whether the manufacturer will be around for potential warranty work. It's very unfortunate for the manufacturer, but you have to think about yourself first.

I paid about $3K for my lift which cosmetically appears the same as JohnZ's and the reason I went with them was because they were made in USA. Well, 3 months after my purchase, they closed because they couldn't compete with the PRC manufacturers. The first company that I bought a lift from went out of business before they could ship my lift. THANK GOD I used a credit card, those who paid by check were flat-out screwed.

I took a close look at JohnZ's lift's electric motor/pump. It is identical to mine, which is identical to the motor/pump sold by Harbor Freight which is manufactured in the PRC. You can't win.

BTW, buy the 240v version if you can. It is much more powerful. Even I was able to run 240 from the panel to the garage.

Heck, I have probably raised/lowered my lift 200 times a weekend. A bit of hyperbole but I have no hydraulic fluid leaks. I think JohnZ got a hell of a deal getting it delivered assembled. I never heard of that. I had my son and two of his friends help me to break the shipper down in the truck and lay it out on the garage floor. Each ramp weighs about 400 lbs. I had one guy help me to assemble it and I used my engine lift to raise the ramps up and secure them to cross beams. An air driven impact wrench makes things a hell of a lot simpler.

You can also contract locally to have the lift assembled in your garage.

I really believe that there is no substantial difference between 4 post lifts of a given weight capacity. They are all "certified" and the different manufacturers argue about what the various certifications really mean. Too hard to figure out for me.

KidAgain,
Glad it worked out for you,I think I'm passing on the doublepark just becuase of the same problem you had.
Could you tell me the name of you lift.Read your thread and could'nt tell the brand.

Jim, did you look at a Backyard Buddy? They ar more money than the Eagles, but they are made in Ohio and have been around for some time....

Herb,Ya I did,at $4300.00 is very pricey and b/ordered for 7 weeks. But made well and only 102in.wide.They said the eagle co. sold out several years ago and are all imported and quality is an issue along w/severals insurance claims against them..
may look again at the Cytech Double park, was just worried they may go out of bussiness..
I'll keep lookin

Although it may look similar, both the motor (Emerson Electric) and the hydraulic pump (Parker-Hannifin) on my Cytech lift are USA-made; at least they were six years ago.

I knew when I bought it that it was more expensive than many of the other lifts out there (although there were far fewer then than there are now), but I looked it over as a Manufacturing Engineer and liked what I saw - good material selection, solid engineering, and attention to quality details in manufacturing and finishing.

Anybody manufacturing these things in the USA these days has a hell of a challenge on their hands trying to compete with Chinese labor costs, not to mention the astronomical increase in U.S. steel prices in the last four years; that's why there aren't many U.S. lift manufacturers left.
