Need Advice - ASAP!

Let the guy keep this Vette. Too much in the mileage discrepancy part for my taste. I smell more than a fishy, dead rat here. I read what you said this seller said, but after he builds the car up description-wise, he ends with "the car is OK" (?!!!) Instead of something along the lines of: "this car is fantabulous! But hey I understand, so here's your money back."

Seems I should've read thru to the end. I see you went ahead with the purchase---long as YOU'RE happy. What the hay! :w :Steer :lou

There was loads and loads of correspondence between he and I.... I only shared a small snippet of it. He does think this car is outstanding and so does the other owner - the previous owner had bought it for his wife but his wife was too scared of the power, ergo that is why he sold it to the guy I'm buying it from...
I feel GREAT about it now and simply can't wait to go get it!

Enjoy the new ride, Dawn.
Keep us posted and I'm sure you can tackle any issues you come across when you are both home.

Update!!!

I thought I would share with you all my experience!! I drove this beautiful baby home almost 2000 miles without a hitch! PERFECT... purrred like a kitten. Rode smooth, solid as hell... everything works except for the auto door locks and the right side mirror will go left to right but not up and down. High speed on wipers don't work. Otherwise she is perfect. Tracks perfectly straight... made it easy for me to grab some soda and eat on the highway. Even hit some massive storms.... no leaks no nothing!

P E R F E C T !!!!

There is NO WAY this car has that many miles... the tell-tale signs just aren't there. So, least to say I got a SMOKIN' DEAL!!!

Thanks all for your comments and concerns... it really helped me grill the seller a lot more than I would have!!

Congrats on the buy and so glad you had a good ride home. You went against a lot of negative advice, including my own. You certainly have more nerve and tolerance for risk taking than I have. And then there is the "woman's intuition" that us guys don't have. It looks like your in-depth questioning and investigative techniques paid off for you.
I wish you the very best with your new ride.
Terry

Funny... right when I walked up and saw it NOTHING would have changed my mind at that point... most of the cars I've bought give me that "feeling".... if they don't then I don't buy! This one absolutely did... it really is awesome... :)

BTW... Lt4man (Gregory) was nice enough to pick me up from the airport, take me to my hotel, then drive me to it the next morning! Talk about being spoiled! His car is FANTASTIC!! :D :upthumbs

This is GREAT news!! I had much the same experience when I gritted my teeth and won my '89 Ebay rat, then drove it back here from Colorado (about 1300 miles). Something I find myself doing more and more is not following the "conventional wisdom" on cars or other things, and have been glad that I didn't. It's a whole new world out there with Ebay and other things, and we are all better off for it.

Take care,
/s/ Chris Kennedy

Great!!! Glad it worked out well for you. Hope you enjoy many more drives with your new ride!

Good to see that you got a good deal. I was just told my tranny is on the way out. My 91 convertible has 80000 on it, a new top and seats, but the clear coat is falling off it. Only paid $5500.00 for it so I'm still in the ballpark. If you drove it for 2000 miles and had no prob, I think you are in the clear. See, good things happen to good people. Good luck with it.

I'm glad you bought the car, it looks to me like a good deal. I personally am leary of "low milage" cars and prefer ones that are driven more then they sit.
BTW I just bought a 89 Blazer that was on Ebay for $700 drove it around Trenton NJ all last weekend then drove it to Ohio without a hitch. It needs a little work but nothing I can't do.
It seems like we hear more about the "bad" deals on E-bay, but the truth is there are more "good" deals then bad, you just need to do your homework.
How many Vettes does this make now? Oh yea the red Vette I found on Ebay also :D

Just the three and that is plenty! I've got enough cars for awhile now... I only got this one because I was really missing my 84... Now its time to start fixing on all of them and getting them all looking snazzy! Right now I'm turning my attention to the 81 Vette.... been tinkering with that one a lot lately.

Frankly I would rather pick up cars that have some quirks and need some repairs... lets you get to know the car better. They are all individuals interestingly enough.... I'm just happy that it got me home safe and sound and didn't stick me with a notrocious towing/repair bill! She's sitting in the shop now waiting for me to go through her.... I'll be giving her the whole go-over before I license her. And yes... this car is most DEFINITELY a her.... no doubt about it!!

Dawn
I read this entire thread and I was amazed at the responce of everyone.....I too bought a corvette on eBay.....and I did a throurgh back ground check on the car...I stold my 86 convert on eBay for $5,990.00...it was a one ower car and a complete history....Ebay has one of the best checks and balance systems around....just use PayPal for any deposets or sales and you are protected from bad sellers...
Glad to hear that everything worked out great for you and your car....What have you named her??? The very best to you and your cars.....

No name yet... really don't have "names" for the cars... but she is definitely a "she"! :)

This will be me in less than two weeks!! :lou I feel good... after seeing these other pictures I'm confident the car is worth the money. I just looked on-line at the Autotrader and the least expensive convt within 300 miles of me was an 89 for $14,995... there are some coupes for sale... that one red one I posted awhile back with 135000 with all the mods for $5200; there is a 91 for $8500 with 143,000 miles but its a coupe. I think all in all I'm getting a smokin deal; even if it has 170,000 on it. :D
I paid around 12K for my 95 Vert when it had 60K on the clock and it came with a 90 day bumper to bumper warranty from the dealer. Timing is everything, I just waited until the middle of winter and bought when the ground was snow covered. I would pass on that car because of its record and milage. There are too many inexpensive low milage C4s to start with an old tired one.
JMHO

Good luck

Mike

Ok Ok Ok...

I'm sure you are all tired of this thread and me and this car BUT I just have to share.... today is the first day of tinkering with it and I just wanted to tell you that after who knows how many miles before and the additional 1900 miles I put on it, the OIL IS CRYSTAL CLEAR... and I'm not exaggerating. I've had new engines and after an oil change, started them up and never had oil this clear before. NOT A SINGLE LEAK in the engine... anywhere. Even after that long haul here! Yea, someone could have cleaned her up but if she was leaking I would have had evidence after that trip. Not a drop. Nothin.

:D :L :upthumbs :_rock

Isn't life just heavenly? See.... I seem to have pretty damn good woman's intuition, heh?

LOL I am not sure about the intuition partr but maybe it is good luck. Glad to see you are on the better end of the deal so far.
