I just had my engine rebuilt and installed by a shop here in Rosevill Ca.Since I got the car back last Friday it hasn`t been right. The engine itself seems to be fine but the charging system has been a nightmare.I replaced the battery and alternator and it was still draining the systmem. The car wouldn`t start after a day or two.I mean no power at all.
Turns out the battery power ground was coming loose in the battery terminal.Fixed that now the check engine warning light is coming on periodically.
I just get the feeling this shop didn`t do something right.I`ve taken it back there twice in the last week and it still doesn`t seem right.
When I took it back originally they charged me for the wiper motor which had a short,I have a warrenty for parts and labor for 12 months but the problem is they have a conflict of interest here and they try to say the problem isn`t related to their engine install LOL! Should I take it to a third party? Does anyone have any suggestions?

Are you sure that the interior/dome light has not been turned on? Or, the lights in one of the rear cubbies?

If you twist the headlight knob, it will click in one extreme position, (I think to the left), and that turns the interior lights on.

That will usually do it.

Try the following

1) Does the voltage gauge indicate that the battery is charging when the car is running?

2) With the engine off, disconnect the negative wire and add a 12volt test light inline to complete the circut.. does the light glow?

Vig!

Yes the battery guage increases under accelaration. It`s normaly over 13.
The car is holding power now I believe it was a simple grounding problem. The only other thing is the check engine guage comes on now everytime I drive. It will come on when I`m just gliding at like 1700rpm`s or sitting idle. When I hit the gas hard and go up to about 2500rpm it goes off only to come back on when I`m just gliding like a minute later.
Any ideas on that? It seems to be running fine.

I took the Vette out cruising on the freeway today and it`s actually running hotter on the freeway at the higher speeds.not really overheating yet I didn`t go that far.In the city it runs normal around 180-185 on the highway over 200 at times. What would cause this?I have a new radiator and waterpump. My engine is beefed up quite a bit would that make a difference? It cools down once I slow down off the freeway.

Hey Fuelie, I don't know who did the motor but there are a lot of flakes in this area. Have you thought about taking it to Corvette Care in Rancho off of Sunrise? They are really good.....God, I hope they didn't do the motor.

Your lower front air dam is either missing or damaged. Replace/repair it so that it is scooping air again and she will run cold as ice.

The shop might have removed it to make it easier to jack the car up, etc.

Fulie, my last '71 gave me problems like that, turned out it was a faulty amp meter.

Cruer82-I have been to CorvetteCare and they are good your right. The shop I had do it was Aaron`s Machine Shop in Roseville.I might try the dealer in Sac. area.thanks.

Dealers are very high priced as you know I'm sure. Did you have a problem with Corvette Care? I have been there a few times and was very happy with them. Last Sat I was there talking with Dennis (C3 guy), about my 82 quiting on occasion and he handed my a computer to carry around and plug in when it quits again to see if that is the problem. No cost and no time frame. Give me a call if you want 916-786-7877.......Ron

Thanks Ron,Corvette Care was very good I had no problem with them.I brought my Corvette to them at least twice and they were knowledgeable and friendly.I did call them this morining and talked to Dick and he said they could test any Corvette except the 80 for some odd reason. My car had the original computer California Corvette originally with a 305.
Corvette World is also in Rancho Cordova but their usually booked up for over a week.Well at least it`s running strong and getting me to work and back.Things could be worse.
I just think the car should run perfect with a rebuilt motor over 4g`s spent. What`s a few more to make it right?I`ve lost some confidence in the shop that did the work.
