Need Catalytic Converter Answer

Guys,

I read that the new Z06 has switched to a single pair of cats. Does anyone know how I would buy a pair of the new cats? or who makes the ones GM is using on the new Z06.

I've got an old small block Vega with an early '70 LT-1 that I'd like to put on the street. Problem is, I need a really good high flow cat and I only have room for 1 cat in each bank. Since my LT-1 has 11.5:1 CR, and I'm running an old crane fireball cam that has a fair amount of overlap, I'm sure I'll need the best hi-flow cat I can get to pass Virginia smog tests.

Thanks

Joe

Cat Question

Hi Joe,

You can order these new cats that come on the 2002 Z06 from Chevy themselves. I would suggest that you remove the small pre-cats or install a Y-pipe at the same time.

I am hearing that several people who have done this have shown a 10-14 horsepower increase.

Good luck

Hi there,
As a sidebar, the exhaust manifolds are also different part numbers, to correctly mate with the changed converter assemblies.
Please be aware of this, besttoyou, c4c5:hb

Appreciate the added info

Thanks for piece of additional info
