Normally I prowl around the C1 and C2 forums, but I need some help. My fiances family has an uncle that recently passed away and he had set aside 4 vettes into shipping containers (he owned a trucking business). One C2, one C3 and two C4's. The C4's were an '86 and an '88.

I am told that the C3 is an '82 Collectors Edition with 6,000 miles on it. The uncle bought the car and put it in the shipping container and never drove the car (in fact he never drove any of the vettes, he tucked them all away).

I am not sure what to look for in terms of options to assist in determining a value. The family doesn't know anything about cars, so I need to take a look at them and offer up an opinion on what they might be worth......so if anyone has come comments on what I need to look for as well as an idea of worth, I would appreciate it.

thanks, Herb

Hey firstgear

See the other thread above, "whats a C3 worth these days" has links to some web sites etc.
Also just google C3, and some of the more common "Vette for sale" sites come up to look at, top get comparison if you wish to do this yourself.

However.......As the 82 CE seems to be such a low mileage C3, maybe it would be advisable to get them all professionally looked at by NCRS member/judge, who should be able to give you more exact values once inspected.

Even if it cost the family a few bucks to get these inspections done, they would have actual figures from someone who has seen the car and valued it. Also the Vette's would have more credability if they had a NCRS report or some such document.

It also takes the sole pressure off you (in case you get it wrong) and therefore less chance of being subjected to any heat at the next family event (if you know what I mean) ;LOL

Either way Good Luck!

What condition is the 82 in??

Jim
I am told the car is in pristine condition....it was bought in '83 and then tucked away in the shipping container. It was never driven after it had been bought. The only think I don't know is how much humidity or moisture got to it in the storage container. I am thinking that it was pretty dry in there as the uncle had other items tucked away in the storage container. It only has 6,000 miles on it.......

At Carlisle, Kerbeck had a seafoam green 82 on display with)I think) 25 miles on it. They had a sticker on it for $23,000.00.
I think that color is fairly rare, but it may give you a rough ballpark comparison.

Another thing to keep in mind, as I am sure you are aware, is that stored cars usually need work done to them to make them road worthy again. Seals and hoses dry out, tires dry rot, parts can rust.

I thouroughly agree with the earlier comments to have it professionally checked over by a Corvette specialist if possible.

Herb,
i would go with the other peoples recommendation and get a Vette Professional to check it out..
Checking the web, i have seen them go from anywhere from $8k up to $23k, depending on condition..
couple of reference links:

http://www.vettehound.com/geo/classifieds.php?a=2&b=1289

There are some for decent money, and some are trying to get an insane amount, just because it says CE..

Again, above links are just references and i would get a professional inspection (on all of them).. When a 82CE came up on ebay, the 82CE guys basically didnt care for the price (23.5K) at 9 miles, as it had been stored for 22 years and needs major over hauling to be road ready again..
