Need help with 1965 Convertible

I am the proud owner of most of the peices of a 1965 Convertible. Some friends and I are currently working on restoring the car to running condition - the rest will need professional help. I went to order parts - specifically the eletrical wiring harness for the engine compartment and the front lamps. I found that there are 2 of each wiring harnesses - one for an early model and one for a late. I have no idea if my car is an early or late model. :confused My serial number is 115048 and from what info I can find, the car was built in April. But I can find no info, other than in the parts catalog, of what makes it an early or late model 65. Any help would be appreciated.

beach1,

We're happy to have you with us on the :CAC

I can't answer your specific questions, but some '65 experts will be by soon.

If you call the manufacturer of the harness (e.g., Lectric Limited), I'm sure if you give them your serial number and the date of manufacture they'll be able to tell you whether you need early or late style. They usually have the info on these things. Notice I said manufacturer, not another aftermarket reseller, as the resellers sometimes know also, but not always.

I own a 65, I have replaced all of the wiring harnesses in the car. I sourced the replacement harnesses from Lectric Limited ( http://www.lectriclimited.com/mainpage.htm ) which has a great rep for correct replacement harnesses. As for the engine harness, you will need to differentiate between AC and Non-AC, FI or non-FI. (I suspect if you had a BB 396 you would have mentioned that already). There is no change in the harness that I am aware of for early or late 65s, and LL also makes no distinction and they are usually pretty good about such issues.

VIG6465 $137.00 ENGINE HARNESS, all small block without air conditioning or fuel injection

VIG6465AC $156.00 ENGINE HARNESS, all with air conditioning (includes A/C wiring)

VIG6465FI $142.00 ENGINE HARNESS, all with fuel injection

note that the headlamp/p-lamp harness is a seperate item. the reason that A/C matters is that it puts the alt on the D-side when A/C is included, this of course requires a change in the harness. Nothing with an impact on the harness (like the alt location, or the battery location) changed during the M.Y. that I know of, but I have been schooled before on here.

as for the general Q of is your car an "early" or "late" car for running changes during a model year, that issue often depneds on the specific change at issue. Generally, your car is certainly not an "early" 65 build - depending on the change, it might be considered late, but know that they built them in May, June, July and a few in August.
