I'm running a stock spec'ed 400 hp, 427 from a '68 vette. The tri-power was replaced with the GM 390 hp intake and a Holley #3310 750 w/vacume secondaries. Now I have a Edelbrock RPM intake but having trouble deciding on a carb. Here's what I've been considering: 4160 Holley 750 w/vacume sec., a 4150 Holley 750 or 850. Or the Speed Demon equivalent.

I'm running a 411 gear and drag race occasionally. Gas milage was 10 mpg. It would be nice to stay close to that. I'm taking all the opinions and advice I can get.

From everything I have read the Demon sounds like the way to go. I have user The Holley units for years, but everything I have seen on carbs lately says go Demon. I understand they cost a few bucks more and are well worth it.

Go with an 850 Holley or try a 750 or 850 from the Holley HP lineup. Super Chevy mag has a Holley carb test in the latest issue. Get it! There's some good info there!!

-just go back to Rochester...

-no not Rochester, NewYork silly, --the Quadrajet-carburetor is the most missunderstood carb around, but if you take the time to really study it (via a suitably dedicated manual) you will ultimately have cause to determine that a carefully rebuilt and properly tweeked Quadrajet is superior to about anything around (probably including Webers etc.); if you talk to prople who make both carbs and intake-manifolds (ie: Edlebrock, which started life as the Carter-AFB) you will probably be advised that the AFB is best (is easiest to work on, -very simple; and is lowest-profile); --but the real experts eventually come to admit that the generously proportioned spread-bore of the Rochester is a happy compromise between fuel-economy and foot-stompin power! Alas, the Rochester is not as "slick lookin" as some of the others (never seen one chromed however). Now exactly why did you remove the TriPower-carb system, ---with a good aluminum intake-manifold that is the sexiest if very best thing going for power, economy, and tractability (using Rochester/2B's with variable-linkage whereby you normally drive on just the center carb.)... ~Bob vH
:crazy :z :confused ;) :eyerole

I've never had any luck with the Quadrajet and have alway's had Holley's. The tri-power set up wouldn't fit. The hood scoop would of been as big as the whole hood. Sometimes you have to say "when". :D

Hi 60,

So what did you decide on? You could always leave the hood off like our friend that lives east of you with the tri power on his small block C1. Q-Jets can be made to perform very well, I've had a few screamers. I would like to try a Demon too. With your gears and cubes you can handle more than a 750. Why not call the Demon and Holley tech lines and chat a while. They should be able to get you dialed in real close to perfect.

Tom

Tom - Still havewn't decided yet. I'm leaning towards the Holley 750 DP. I think I'll try the tech lines later this week. I'm having trouble telling myself the Demon is worth another 200 bucks.
