I'm having some trouble with the passenger window on my '76. The rear side of the window does not seal against the door weatherstripping, causing water leaks and wind noise at highway speeds. This has been a problem since I bought the car a few years ago. Since the T-tops started leaking last year too, I replaced all the weatherstripping hoping this would solve my door problem, but it has not. I found the instructions for window adjustment on a 71 from corvettefaq.com, but my car does not seem to have the inboard/outboard adjustment screw as noted in the diagrams. Unfortunately, I do not have an assembly manual, and was hoping to avoid having to buy one as I will probably be selling the car this spring in order to buy a C5. Any help would be most appreciated. :cool

I think there should be an in/out adjustment. Two screws hold each rail at the top of the door frame...follow the rails up. Not much of an adjustment...maybe a 1/2 inch eitherway.

Easiest way to adjust. Take off the door skin. Sit in the car. Loosen off the rail screws as well as the stops at the top of each rail. Power the window up. It should seat itself in the moulding. Once seated tighten all the screw you loosened.

The rails can be adjusted forward/backward and in/out. To properly adjust the forward/backward you need to loosen off the screw at the bottom of each rail. The two stops on the rail set the height the window will go up.

There are also two carpeted guides that press up against the glass along the top of the door frame. These press the window tightly up against the rubber molding along the out side of the window. Some times the rubber wears out which results in inwards/outwards play. Check them and/or adjust them. they should be snug but not overly tight.

Lastly if your regulator has worn out none of the above will help much. There is a rivit in the middle of the regulator that holds it together. It wears out and causes excessive forward/backward or in/out play.

Is this the article http://www.71corvette.com/cn-apr/24.jpg

Haynes manual...

Has directions for adjusting the window...im currently having issues with my window and as soon as my photos are approved i will post them. i have seen the directions for adjusting them in my book, saw them yesterday....so you should go to the parts store and find the book...it would be easier to get the book as it has photos of where the screws are and such.
Good luck, Chas

ps...haynes manual is $10 at Autozone

Thanks for all of your help. None of the adjustments I have made thus far have helped. I have a Chilton's manual which doesn't give any instruction on the window adjustment. I'll try the Haynes. Thanks again. :)

tom,I took this pic of my(81)assembly manual
hope this helps

Why bother with the third-party generic Chilton and Haynes manuals? The GM factory shop manual has all those processes shown in detail, as does the GM factory Assembly Manual.
