I have a 1989 conv. and want to get new mufflers and rear y pipe. I am considering the flowmasters and the dynomax ultraflows with the rear y pipe with the cross piece balancing tube. I don't want anything too loud but would like the deep throaty sound and a modest increase in performance. Anyone like to render their opinion?

Go with the Flow

....ahh that works at so many levels.

Seriously, all American Flowmasters cant be beat. While other mufflers might have more "flow", you will notice a decrease in low-end power. You need a little backpressure for torque and Flowmasters sound sahweeeet! A distinctive growl with a little chirp. God I love that sound.

On an 89 the tips look nice too, I have an 84 and I went with the KDB targas 'cause the Flowmasters for 84s have turned down tips that look kinda lame IMHO. (And they wuz cheeeep!) ;)

Though the Borlas with the LT1 square tips look hella nice and I heard they sound good.

I have the Flowmasters on my 88' and I get a smile everyday that I drive hearing that sweet rumble! You won't regret it!

I bought mine on eBay with the rear y-pipe for $350, it was never installed by the guy. The mufflers are black and the tips are stainless steel.

The problem with the stainless systems is that they're so darn expensive, ie. $500 for just the mufflers + ~$200 for the y-pipe.

Flowmaster catback system here on the ZR-1. Cost was not the deciding factor, sound was. GT style mufflers "if you want to call them that," on the 84 CF through a true dual exhaust conversion. Extremly loud, will wake the dead. Must change them out this spring to turbo mufflers for the wife. 84 CF 91 ZR-1

:L :L :L That sounds like the ad you'd put in the paper if you sold the exhaust off the 84 CF.
