Starting from scratch, which year would you select? Thinking of a 96 LT4 m6 but for that amount, I could buy an older car and use the same money to upgrade. Purpose is to build a moderately quick street car (1/4<12.5 et) that would be able to compete with the C5's possibly even the new Z06's. Is it possible or should I start with a C5? (I really do like the appearance of the C4,s)

The LT4 can already beat early model LS1 C5s. (97-00 usually)

It also starts at the 12.8x-13.0 range in ETs.

But you could drop an LT4 Hotcam, new exhaust in an older LT1 m6 and whip them just the same.

hey there,
it might sound bias, but i would start with the c5,LS1s respond very well to mods and over all its a killer car.i have a 99 auto, halltech t-1 only mod(lots of paint and polish thou)runs 13.4 @ 105mph and thats with 2.2 60ft times.thats the best you can get on street tires here, because they dont prep the track-at all.on the freeway not to many contendors because traction is no longer an issue:t later,Todd.

Hey vader86, (and every body else)

What do I need to put that LT4 Hotcam in my 94 LT1?

Can I put it just like that? or I need to get more stuff like rockers, springs, etc.

I am asking here because I believe the answer can be hepfull for newonad too.

By the way, maybe I need some more years to like better the C5 design than the one on the C4. I know it has many advantages over the C4 but I really like the C4.

Thanks in advance!

You should just buy the whole Hotcam Kit from Superior Chevrolet. It has rockers, timing chain, springs, etc.
(you always need new springs when you upgrade cams)

Superior Chevrolet (913) 384-1550.

You dont really need LT4 heads or the LT4 manifold.

Only other things you need are tuning, a better exhaust, and some head porting if you want the maximum out of that engine. The hotcam kit is going to get you faster right now though.

Thanks Vader86,

I really apreciate that info, maybe I dont need an LT4 anymore if I change the rear axle from 2.59 to 3.54 and follow your advice in the cam/ported heads in my LT1 besides it has many miles to go!

newonad, maybe you should go for the LT1 or LT4 m6 option. I always tough that an LT1 with some little tricks can equal the C5s and the $ difference between both cars is big.

Just my opinion.

If you're happy with your LT1 but just want a faster Vette, I would keep it. Your car already has great potential. Follow what Vader said and you'll have one quick machine

Thanks Jay,

The LT1 is my every day car and its already fast, looks and sounds great but I know its limitations and there are some boxters, BMWs and C5s down here. Maybe its the way it sounds but almost everybody wants to race me. Most of the people here lately tends to go with the euro-cars and I am a vette man flesh and bone! (see my point?)

I just love them to see my pride and joy tail, and for the other vettes I just want to be a little faster.

By the way, my personal dream is to own a "king of the hill", if I ever put my hands on one of those I will never let it go. Like the beauty you have there!

See you!

George
