I am changing the line that runs from the gas tank to the purge canister. (mine was clogged) There are alot of twists and turns in the steel line that was in the there so it would be nearly impossible to recreate it with steel. I was thinking about going with either Hard Vaccum line tubing or Gas Line tubing. Any pros and cons and any other suggestions on the material I should use? Maybe copper tubing?

How on earth did it get clogged Jon? That's a hell of a job replacing the complete line! :eek

_ken :w

By the way, in case you are interested, the information contained in Mike Antonick's Corvette Specs book states that the material used for the lines is "Super Terne-coated steel." ;)

I second that one!

I would do ALL I could to flush it out; blow it through before changing it.

Well guys...the word for the day is "condensation". What happens is condensation can build up on the inside of the steel jacketed tubing and cause rust and slowly chokes off the air flow. It’s like needing a heart bypass on the car. I did replace the line this afternoon. What I ended up using was ¼ inch copper refrigerator tubing. (the same stuff you use when connecting ice maker to the water supply.) This tubing is very malleable and easily shaped to the contours necessary. The biggest symptom to see if your lines are clogged (and it is common in older cars) is built up pressure in the tank. If you take the cap off the tank after you drive a while and you can hear pressure…your lines are clogged. It can also be dangerous.

Line clog

I would suggest braided hose. It would probably outlast the car.
