Question: Need Tire Advice

I am replacing my OEM tires on my C5. 12 years old with 25K. Good tread left but they are very noisy. I have a 09 Coupe and the OEM tires are not noisy at all. Have the Good Year runflats been inproved or do all
runflats get noisy when they get old, (like me). I really cannot recall what the run flats sounded like 12 years ago when they were new. I have heard a lot of good things about Michelin Pilot Sports but I like the more aggressive look of the Goodyear OEM. Also I have to wonder if the people I am talking to about the Michelin are seeing a big inporvement in ride and noise levels due to new tires and not so much the brand. I don't use this car much and would consider a non run flat if I could get one with the aggressive look of the OEM tires. I only put about 2k miles a year on this car. Price really does not matter b/c they will probably be the last set of tires I put on the car. Any help would be appreciated.

All tires get harder as they age which means more noise from them.

The first couple of generations of run-flats started out harder than the current version and get noiser than the new ones.

Even with good tread, tires more than 7-10 years old should be replaced as there may be problems growing inside just from growing old.

A new set of GoodYear run-flats will probably be very quiet compared to the old ones you have now.

Check tire prices and see if the Miclelins are cheaper than GY. Also check around for other tires. As little as you drive the car, you may not need to spend the money for GY or Michelin.

Yes the GY's on the C6 are constructed to be more quiet .There is still a world of difference in the Michelin's ."Tire Rack" is a good place to go for reviews.

Otherwise the current GY C5 OEM replacement are not as good as OEM GY C6 replacements? I have read the reviews at tire rack & OEM C5 runflats get bad reviews. I figured I would try the fourm to get specific answers. Thanks, Mike

Just got a set of mchelin p/s run flats. Had kumho so noisy. Great tire no noise. Tire rack.com.

I only know the C6 compound is different from the original C5 compound .I do not know that they changed the C5 compound .I'm willing to bet that your local GY dealer would know the answer.It would seem to be logical that they would have changed both .

I went with the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 ZPs (Zero Pressure). same tire as the ZR1 but in C5 sizes. look nice on the car and much quieter that the GY Run Splats...I love em. not an inexpensive tire though, Tire Rack has the best prices.

I have been looking at these. I am between the PS A/S and the PS2ZP. Not to offend anyone but I am not crazy about the profile and tread look of the PS A/S. From the TireRack website the PS PS2 look more aggressive. I have to see them in person before I make up my mind.

I didn't like the look of the PS A/S either ....looked to much like big 4 door sedan tires so I waited for the PS2 ZP's to come out a few years ago in the C5 size's....take a look at your local chevy dealer at a ZR1. its the same tire. I can carry on a normal conversation with my wife rather than shout over the drone of the GY's...a bit of a softer ride than the GY's too. Good luck in making your choice

I don't know why I didn't think of going to the Chevy dealer to look at the ZR1. I can see them on a Vette only on a smaller scale.

I looked long and hard at the Michelin A/S and I didn't see their worth. So I stuck with the Michelin Pilot Sport PS/2 ZP, And I'm so glad I did. The PS/2 ZP are so much quieter and the handling much crisper. Every-time I get in the car now and start out on the road, I can feel and hear the difference 2 X Fold. The Michelin's are just everything the original Good-years weren't ! One of the best purchases for the Corvette I ever made.

Just get the Michelin PS2, a great all round tire with much softer rubber and much better grip and handling.

I ordered the PS2 ZPs. I order them on a set of ZR1 wheels in C5 sizes. The wheels are back ordered and should be shipped next week. They will arrive with the PS2 ZPs mounted and balanced with new sensors. GTG.
