Need to take out antenna motor...working on right now...PLEASE HELP ASAP!!!

I had the motor apart and it just seems that it's the cable I need to replace, as well as clean the motor up a bit. There was just too much resistance for the cable (and not enough teeth, she's pretty worn down) for it to protrude up the antenna. So it looks like a $20 fix.

Make sure to use a good-quality connector to re-connect the wire. It's in an area that will get a lot of exposure to corrosion.

Also, while you're at it, take ironmoo's advice and get a heat shield. You could make your own, or buy a pre-made one from someone (I know Mid-America sells them).

I see what you mean. The motor is right above the exaust. I think I will buy that heat shield for it. I know the heat from the exaust isn't doing the motor any good. :)

Listen, guys. What I'm going to do with the cut wires is just crimp (sp?) them. Do you agree that this would be sufficient? Then I'll just put silicone over it and then electrical tape over that to protect the connection from dirt, water, etc.

Do you agree? Or should I reconnect another way the two wires?

Thanks!! :)

If you don't want to use the trailer type connector like I suggested before...just go to radio shack and get some heat shrink tubing...couldn't be more then a buck for a package...slip it over your crimp (soldering is best) then just take a hair dryer to the tube and it will shrink around your splice.

That's what I figured I would do. Although I think soldering would be pretty tough upside down under the car, so couldn't I just use some electrical clamps? And I've used shrink tubing before, too. So this shouldn't be too tough.

Thanks! :)

Crimped butt connectors covered with heat-shrink tubing will work fine.

Okay then, that's what I'm going to do. Thanks everybody!! :)

If you're going to use crimps, make sure you use a proper crimping tool. I've seen people use all sorts of things to crush crimps, and end up having them rattle loose later on.

Personally, I'd use a simple spade connector (crimp the car end, solder the antenna end, since you can do that one outside the car), and shrink-wrap that. That way, you can always cut the shrink wrap off and disconnect the connector, if you need to remove the antenna again.

Hmmm..I'll look into this spade connector. That sounds like it might be more durable. I'll see.

And I'll make sure I'll use a proper crimping tool. I know my father has one, so he'll let me use his. :)

I don't know about durability, but it would make future work easier (no need to re-cut the wires).
