brake systems

HI GUYS! Thanks for reading up on THE FINAL SOLUTION on brakes. Actually, the brake website is POWERBRAKESERVICE.NET although still being built, it features the hydroboost on the opening page in color. We can build the hydroboost in chrome or powder coat colors on request. We also rebuild stock power brake units for all years, and offer a dual diaphragm unit for the 84-96 cars ala ZR-1 for incredible stopping power without going to exotic calipers and rotors! Our phone is 800 504 1060 We are also building the hydroboost to fit all cars and trucks to 1 ton. These units do not require vacuum, and work great on Camaros and Chevelles with monster motors and huge valve covers. We retrofit them to Suburbans, Tahoes, Escalades, and anything that just won't stop

Hey Guys, I just wanted to say I have the brake problem. My pedal went soft on me so I checked the calapers and replaced one that was bad. I did a two person bleed on it and got air out of the rear left side. After bleeding I had a hard pedal.

I drove the car probably 30 to 50 miles and pedal went soft again. I checked them again and did a bleed job again, air out of the right rear this time.

Drove the car down the street and did a power stop. Break pedal went soft immediately after the stop.

Checked the lines, had rotors turned and had plenty of pedal.

I drove the car at least 50 miles and pedal was fine, so last weekend I drove to Tampa. The pedal got soft again after 300 miles.

I have replaced two rotors, the master cylinder a year ago and turned the rotors. How can I tell if it's the rear bushing or spindel's? Where do I go next?

Please help me with this nightmare.

Thanks
Tifton81

I would check the wheels bearings, as the wobble in the disks can cause the seals to suck air into the calipers.

By the way, I have the same problem. I drove the car about 50 miles last week and every time I braked, it pulled more and more to the right. Just did them all last year, and I guess I will do them again this year.GRRRRR. Getting tired of paying to have the bearings reshimmed every year.

Classic symptom of "air-pumping" in the rear calipers, caused by excessive lateral runout of the rotors and/or loose rear wheel bearings. You mentioned you had the rear rotors turned - did they do it on the car, or off the car? You need to measure rear rotor runout and bearing play with a dial indicator setup to find the problem. Until you verify rotor runout and rear spindle bearing end play, you'll just keep throwing money and time at it.

Production rotors will last virtually forever without turning if you use stock-type pads (unless they're badly scored, cracked, or damaged), and turning them "off the car" won't fix the "air-pumping" problem - just gives you nice, shiny rotors that continue to pump air at highway speeds. Most brake shops that just LOVE to "turn them rotors" have absolutely no knowledge of the unique runout requirements of a fixed-caliper brake system; everything they work on has floating single-piston calipers.

Thanks John for the info.....I have not had the rotors checked on the car. I don't think anyone here in Tifton, Ga. even knows what or how to do that. Can anyone suggest a shop to take it to in South Georgia to get it taken care of and what is the normal cost to have it fixed?

Thanks
