Have not seen any postings on brakes, so thought I would let everyone know about the job I did this week on my 81. Ordered 4 new calipers, pads and rubber brake lines from Fast Corvettes out of Texas. These were rebuilt calipers with stainless steel pistons. They arrived boxed individually ( I did not know that each caliper was dedicated to a wheel and were not interchangable) and looked to be new. Excellent product.
I had put aside 2 days for this project and to my surprise it took only 8 hours which included jacking the car on 4 points, using a wire brush to hit anything/everything in sight once the wheels were off, reinstallation of the new parts and bleeding the system. Thanks to my bride for the help in bleeding the lines.
The best part of this project was the cost of the new brakes ($300 after core returns) which was a surprise after looking at the usual restore sites.Thought it was gonna take a couple more bills, but I'll use that for the headers soon.
If you're planning this job, shoot me an email for any questions. Not an expert, but I can help (maybe).
