Hello, Getting Close To Spring Here In New York, And I Gotta Get Her Ready. 2 Weeks Ago A Lifter Gave Out On A Trip To The Jersy Shore. Got Home Pulled The Lifters, There In Bad Shape. Pulled The Cam, Bad Shape. Can Anybody Help With The Best Performance Cam To Go With. My Car Is Stock Except, True Daul Ex., New Quaderjet Carb. I Want To Get The Most Performance I Can. Will Add Other Mods Later, But Will Start With The Cam.thanks

Hey YACOBLT, Welcome The L-81 registry. I'm also looking for more power. with out making major mods. I heard comp cams has a few cams that work with the computer. If I go as far as installing a cam, I would probably put on different heads to increase compression and a better intake. Any Ideas on any of the above?
Thanks
Gary

A cam will make a big difference alone
on a stock l81
Comp cams and crane cams both make good products at fair price..
The cylinder head are terrible, as are the cast iron manifolds
New heads, headers, cam, exhaust, and better gear ratio will make a big difference

:D Just wanted to welcome you to the Corvette Action Center.......

welcome to CAC and the l-81 forum hope you enjoy the forum and your 81...

FYI there have been several engines with comp cams installed in them and the cam had broke on them you may wish tom consider another manufacturer for a cam...

Hey Gary, Thanks For The Welcome.i Know The Heads Are Terrible. But With The Lifter Going And Putting In A New Cam, Lifters, roller Rockers A New Carb And All The New Vacume Lines, Hoses, Oh Yeah The New Water Pump Lets Not Forget The Timing Chain And Gears. Whew. And I Have A Harley. Money Is Better Spent Elsewere, Like On Bills And Other Unimportent Things, Or So My Wife Says.anyway I Researched Some Cams And Im Leaning Towards A Comp 268h Or The Xe262h. If Anybody Has Any Input On Them, Im Ready To Listin. I Heard What You Said Bill, Thats Scary.

I have Edelbrock Performer Aluminum heads (they have the holes for the accessory brackets), Performer cam kit #2102, Comp Cams Magnum tip roller rockers (1.52 ratio), Edelbrock #7800 timing chain set,(set straight up) which will save the trouble of degreeing the cam using offset bushings. DUI ignition (compatible with the stock Rochester carb). I also have true dual stainless exhaust without the cats. I just rebuilt my rear using 3.31 gears. The Edelbrock parts are dyno-matched. Ive been happy with the results. It's got plenty of power for the street. You start putting too big of a cam and too big of a rear gear (numerically higher). It gets old driving down the interstate at 65 MPH at 4000 RPM. Hope this gives you something to think about.
