BP's 86 4+3

Guest
Hey folks ....getting set to do some refreshing of my 1986, early w/ cast heads, 4+3, the engine is fine, as is the OD unit....no problems....planning on replacing my clutch assembly.....any suggestions on what to put in?????

Also, while it's out, thought I'd get a local tranny shop to refresh the 4 spd...think it only needs some new synchronizers for 2nd & 3rd.......

And since it's down, thought I'd send my injectors out to be cleaned & tested.....any preferences or experiences as to who?????

I live in Carlisle.....home of the greatest Vette show on earth....and it happens every year right around my birthday!!!

Thanks for all your help fellow ultimate car owners!!!!

Bob :D

Any place that can bench flow test them and make sure the spray pattern is what it needs to be would be alright to clean them. When I had my motor rebuilt the guy that rebuilt them farmed them out to somebody else.

Thanks for the reply.....I appreciate your help.... can't wait til it gets warm enough to let er rip after installing this!!!!!!!!!!!!

I sent them off to WitchHunter Performance (got positive review in another thread & a fellow vette owner) today, I'll let you know my experience. Also ordered a new adjustable fuel pressure regulator while I'm at it.......

Ordinarily I would agree with the seemingly good sense of what you are doing---that is, while part "X" is out for repairs also get part "Y" checked, cleaned etc. However, many times when I have done this with other cars I find that things come back worse, and you have a big repair bill to boot, then something totally unrelated goes wrong and you have just spent a wad of money on something which wasn't broken to begin with! Have other's had this experience? Have you thought of just doing what NEEDS to be done, and sort of ditch this "while you are at it...." approach that many Corvette repair "specialists" will sell you? Many times, it is cheaper and far less frustrating to simply leave parts which seem fine alone, even if they are not perfect. You'll also get your car back sooner and avoid your car being one of these Corvette-shop residents that you see.

Chris,

Normally I might agree, but I do all of my own work & once you've removed the stuff needed to gain access to the clutch.....might as well fix anything else you see, 'cause I sure don't want to do this again real soon.......

So appreciate the comments, but I'm selling myself on stuff to do before putting it all back together....

Yeah, I can see that if you are doing the work yourself that it makes a difference. My problem has been with shops.

I do 95% of my work and I agree with BP . I think people that can't do their own work can be caught between a rock and a hard place. When I see the costs of having repairs done on vettes I get the chills. :eek
