New guy with C6 question

Hi, i bought an '07 convertible and love it. Really, a great car. I've run into a problem though. The gas cap won't stay "locked" down and occasionally, the yellow "sevice engine soon" light comes on. In the past, I've tried retightening the gas cap and the light would go off. Now, that doesn't work. So I went to the local parts house and bought a new gas cap. It locks down the way it should but the light still won't go off. Any ideas?

Get a code reading and make sure it's not an oxygen sensor also or some other lean condition.

CWebb - Here is something you may want to look at -
I had the check engine light come on last week on my 2012 Corvette - with 300 miles on the odometer - took it right to the dealer and they said "check your fuel cap".
That wasn't the problem - they replaced the evap solenoid for the right saddle fuel tank. The write up fix said:
Evap solenoid did not close at times when commanded, replaced evap solenoid. Problem fixed.

OP~ There have been numerous threads about the "C6 gas cap."
Here's what I can tell you. Some early gas caps caused a code to be thrown. Causing a "check engine light" (CEL) to be illuminated. Once it has been replaced, the light may (or may not) go out, but the code is still stored. You'll need a reader that can erase codes for this.


The only thing you can do regarding your gas cap is~

1. Do not push down/forward when you twist the cap off or on.

2. Be sure to twist the cap until it clicks 3 or more times when installing.


If You have difficulty filling your fuel tank, it (fuel hose) may have been cut long, causing a slight kink between the filler and the tank. If you have problems with gasoline backing up the fill (and you know the tank isn't full) then "clock" the fuel nozzle handle to 2 o'clock. This will help get the gas into the tank.

This has worked perfectly on my car for the last 51,000+ miles and 6 years...
