Hey everyone. I just got registered. I bought my first Vette this past Friday. 1976 L82 Auto. I don't know a lot about Vettes so I'll be around here a lot. This is what I know about the car, most of this is what the seller told me, so there could be some elaborations. Originaly bought in Las Cruces, NM and has been in state its whole life. I believe that, because theres not a speck of rust anywhere on the car. It is a L82, but I haven't checked the numbers on it. I'm supposed to be the 4th owner. The eng, tranny, and rear end were rebuilt about 16K miles ago. There are receipts for everything going back 10 years. It drives great, no slop in the steering at all. The interior looks good and the paint is pretty good also. I looked at enough roughed up Vettes here in Albuquerque, but this one has been taken care of. I'm not totally dumb on cars, so I'm pretty sure I got it cheap. I'll get all the numbers I can and post them here. I need to find a place to host some pics too. Thanks in advance!

Brian, WELCOME!! glad you've here. you'll find there are a lot of wonderful, helpful and truly unique people here. never worry, there are NO dumb questions here

save the wave

Welcome to the CAC Brian. It's nice to add another 1976 to the group!! :D
If you have any questions related to date codes, stamps, specs etc about your car I have a wealth of knowledge about the '76. Again, welcome!! :upthumbs

Welcome Brian,

You'll find the CAC a first class resource of 'Vette advice. After buying my first 'Vette I tried a few forums before settling on this one. In my opinion it's definitely the best.

Has the nicest people too!

Welcome Brian. Wealth of knowledge here. Even if you just read on things your not currently doing but may do some day. 76 is a great year!!! :_rock

Thanks everyone! I took off the air cleaner tonight and there's a Rochester carb under there, not sure if that's right for the car. The numbers on the block match the VIN and I really don't have any reason to think it's been re stamped. I'll check the tranny and rear end when I can.

One question, were cloth seats even an option in this car? This has very nice cloth seats, I mean brand new reupolstered seats. I took the seat covers off because they look so good.

Of course, there are some little things.....

Welcome Brian, "76" rules, I don't believe cloth seats were a option, it was vinyl or leather. Anything I can help with I will be glad to, I have gotten lots of help here already with things I have done to my car. 76okievette

Nice Bryan, it appears to have been "personalized" some, it looks to have the later "pace car " bumper and spoiler, both mods I plan on in the future.:upthumbs

Whats the best way to polish up the wheels? They are a little dull.

Brian, for polishing the wheels, i use Wenol or Flitz. most really good car shows will have a vendor selling the products. if the wheels are still somewhat shiny. use cotton cloths to apply and remove. if there is some corrosion then i would suggest extra fine(000) grade steel wool to apply . and cotton cloth off.
been using this method on my cycles for years

Brian,

Welcome to the CAC. That's a beautiful car you have there. Alsways good to have another '76. I was where you are 1 year ago. The people here are very nice and always very helpful.
By the way, the Qjet is the correct carb for the car. I use Mother's aluminum polish on mine. Take's a little elbow grease but they shine up beautifully.

Don't know if there's clearcoat on those wheels but acetone should take it right off (remember to use chemical protection, gloves, goggles)

Mother's aluminum polish works great :upthumbs

Nice clean C3, congrats :beer
