My 67 came only with an ignition key that works. A man told me that if I took the serial number of the car to a Chevy dealer he could look it up a cut new keys. Anybody know if it's true?

Grizzly, if you have the key number, any good locksmith or Chevy dealer should be able to "cut" you a new key for the one that you do not have. Im not sure if either can get the info from the VIN number. My 67 convert. has the key numbers listed in the owners manual, it was written in by the dealer that sold the car "NEW". I dont know if all dealers did this, they are not labeled "key numbers" but they are there. A locksmith might be able to make you a key if you take him the glovebox lock mechanism, there might even be a number on it for reference. Worth a look!
Good luck, Bob

Your Ignition key should work for IGN and the doors. If it does not, pull the locks and take them and the key to a good locksmith who can fix you up.

I assume you are missing the glovebox/spare tire carrier key. Again, take both locks to a good locksmith and get a key made up and have him set up your locks to match.

Easily done. While you're at it, you could have the locksmith cut you a set of original keys using blanks.

If you remove the ignition cylinder, it will have the original key number stamped on it (assuming it hasn't been re-coded); so do the glove box, spare tire lock, and door cylinders. With that 4-digit number, any good locksmith can make new keys for you.

Insert the key, turn it to "Accessory", stick a paper clip in the little hole in the face of the cylinder (you'll feel a spring plunger), push against the spring, and turn the key counter-clockwise and the cylinder will pop right out.

If your locks haven't been messed with, there are two keys - the ignition key works the ignition and doors, and the other key works the glove box and spare tire lock.
