Just for kicks, see the picture below of the bracket that comes with the C6, it takes some of the grill space as you can see.
I put a picture of my bracket with a plate on it, and then an option for you, the original plate can be mounted to my bracket and then the plate if you wish, I like options.
I am working with my shop tomorrow and expect to have production started and ready to go in a week. That's the latest:

I don't think there's any way to make a front plate look good on the C-6 , but thats looks an awful lot better than the GM mount . They should sell well ! Cliff

That does look much better. I still can't figure out what the design team was thinking with their OEM design, and placement. The only thing I can think of is ... they may have had to meet certain "height above the pavement" rules for all states that require front plates. That's the only thing that comes close to making any sense.:confused

I like the bottom mount better. It looks a little less like a wart on the end of the car's nose. When it is in the top position, it leads the way and is the first visual element seen on the car. The other way, it is tucked in a little better.

once again an excellent example of non-GM (outside the box) thinking.........jimmy

Looking good shopman! While the aluminum looks great on the silver, the option to mount the OEM plate over your and having it painted body color is a great option.

Just look out for curbs with the front. ;)

Drilled into bumper??

Hi

Last night l noticed while l was walking my dog that one of my neighbors just picked up a C6, black coupe 6spd that really looked real sweet. In fact it was even better.

The first thing that he said that bothered him was the front license plate holder that seemed to have been drilled right into the bumper with two bolts.

Tell me that it isn't true and that we were both mistaken.

Sadly it is. If you look at shoman's silver one above, you'll notice there are no pre-drilled license plate bracket holes in the front bumper at all. When the factory bracket is installed, holes are drilled in the bumper cover to mount it. I don't know what they do on the inside of the bumper as I have not had a chance to look at the back side of one. Just from the outside on a car with the bracket mounted. :(

So Sad and very dumb!

Hi

So l can safely say that the dealership drilled the holes and not GM. If it was my C6 l would have the dealership fix it or better yet inform them that l do not want a front license plate mounted and that l was going to do it myself.

Boy would l cry.

It could have been the dealer or GM from what I have learned. I was talking about it on another thread about the license plate bracket. I believe it was in the poll about them. Anyway, when I was looking at one to buy, it already had the bracket installed and I asked the dealer why they put it on and he said they didn't, that they are coming off of the truck like that. Now this was up in Missouri and I believe they may have front plates. So it could be a delivery option depending on where the car is first delivered.

Mike,
I have a list started for the guys that want on so email me at: shopman1@hotmail.com and I will put you on the list. When I have all the stuff together and know whats up, I will inform all.
Thanks,

Location?

Hi

Where are you located in New Jersey?

And what do you recommend for C6's that already have the two holes in the bumper?

Just a thought.

Alan

More importantly, is there anyway we can petition in NJ to have Corvettes be exempt from front license plates? I thought I heard of one state where Corvette owners got together and actually got a bill passed so that Corvettes don't need the front plate.

license plate bracket

It is really too bad that someone out there, with obvious engineering skills, [certainly not me] can't come up with a design that would allow the top edge of the bracket with plate to rotate rearward, and lock to a flat position in the grill slot when not being driven so the front appearance isn't impacted so much when it is sitting still. Wouldn't have to be motorized, manual would probably be fine. Forgetting...to rotate it back down when driving--priceless. Course it would probably require the removal of some/one of the black plastic struts in there, but that could probably be done without affecting much.

I thought about it however, one - you need to mount it further in front so that it could rotate, two - the manafacturing and cost would be up there. Why not use Velcro and forget to put the plate on, if stopped you pop out and put it on.
All I know is that the lower mount looks much better and I can tell you that it has not changed the operating tempeture.

Eureka

Velcro--Eureka. I think that you hit on something there. Best of both worlds. Easy on and off.

Hahahaha - I can almost see that. You need to back up a bit to get a better perspective. Good one. Where are you in NJ, I'm near Morristown.
