I have designed and have a prototype of a new License Plate Bracket for the C6. This one is made of aluminum. All you can see if the plate position, not the bracket however it has a bracket behind the plate. I am currently getting one other prototype made of a different material and will then get prices and look to all for pre-orders so we can keep the price down based on numbers. Patent Pending.

This is a peak:

Three questions:

1) Can the plate travel up and down the bracket... so someone can move the plate up or down to their particular liking?

2) Can the bracket be easily removed for those days you feel like being a 'rebel'?

3) Will the plate frame be offered in other colors (if chrome is a color)? And, is the frame plate independent of the mounting bracket?

Nice design BTW.

4) Does it touch the paint in anyway? Looks better than that POS GM has.

1) Plate travel - no its stationary - the plate should be 6.5" off the street.

2) The bracket will have 4 screws behind the lower pumper.

3) If I were to offer colors, this would be so expensive that no one would be interested. You could have it finished if you wanted. Look at the junkie one that came with the C6 - its black.

It will not touch the paint and has some rubber under the surfaces.

Thats the plan so far.

How does this front plate mount effect coolant and oil temperatures in highway driving?

Looks a Heckuva lot better than the stock block on the nose! How do I get one for my future C6?

Just talked to DMV again Look

I guess I was told wrong by one person, I checked again and the rule for NJ is minimum 12" from the ground and not higher than 48"s. The only time this will be scrutinized is at inspecting time. I will put this on my Vette, (better than none) and when I go for inspection, I will temporally mount the Chevy supplied plate on the Vette. I had a plate low and and kind of behind the a center grill on my 73 clearly about 5"s off the street, never had a problem, never had to go through inspection as well. So, I still think it's better than no plate, thats for sure. Not sure what the regulations are in other states. Possably we can hear from others on this???

Thanks, shopman1

So I don't get in trouble with the Forum for not paying a fee to be a vendor before I know I have advanced sales, can those who are interested please email me, and I will communicate via email. My email address is:

New Plate

Shopman,
Great design!!!!! Why didn't GM think of that???
As for your DMV specs, your correct. But think of this: When you take your '73 thru the inspection, when was the last time they measured the distance from the ground to your plate??? I'm willing to bet you could leave your plate on there, and they'd think it was factory supplied!!!LOL!! I never had any problem with my '80 vette. and I'm pretty sure that was closer than 12" from the ground.

By the way, where in NJ are you from. That shot of the vette w/your plate on it looks like it was taken at Classic in M'town. Am I correct???

Again, great design!!!!

Because GM has repeatedly said that blocking the front could create a cooling issue with reduced airflow. This would be my concern with the frame but I suspect it would really only be an issue for the track? Maybe highway driving as Tuna asked about?

You got it.

shopman needs to base line a clean nose before the summer is over for temps, then stick that plate and frame in there and see what changes. For track days, you can take it off; but if it creates cooling problems on the highway, then you may not want it at all.

Just an FYI, my application only has a few more squar inches of coverage more than the stock application. The picture angle is not faverable. I don't see any increased heat as yet! I have settled on the Aluminum application due to the fact that the plastic application would take $24,000. to get the tooling set up, WOW! So, I will get some pictures out on this very soon to show the new bracket better. You can also mount the stock bracket that comes with the C6 on the front of my bracket if you wish, I like options.
More to come.

Don't get me wrong shopman1, it looks great. Cooling would be the concern until it's been tested out. Keep us posted.

Leon,
This is not theoretical, I have a C6 and I am running it on my car! How many miles, about 200 of wich only aobut 50 with the plate on the car, I will keep you all in the loop. Leon, thanks for the comments, your asking questions that others may be holding back on, its good, it all ends up with a better end product.

This looks fine, to me, and (ironically) I posted a message to another thread which talked about a similar solution to the problem. I don't think that you are going to find that this interferes with cooling in real world driving. Frankly, I don't like the C6 styling, but my guess is that the designer of this plate will have tons of orders!

Chris, thank you, the designer would be me. I am always looking for a better way! More to come on this very soon.

Shopman, I realize you've been testing it on your C6 but I'm not sure what your driving style is, where you've performed your driving, climate, etc. Perhaps finding a couple people in some warmer climates for additional testing, documentation of driving with bracket, etc. Just offering ideas as I'm sure there will be others that will ask and perhaps this will help you prepare for answering them. Given the current climate of NJ now (starting to cool off for fall) there may not be any impact to cooling but you may find different results in AZ or FL or TX. Well, except FL doesn't require a front plate. ;)

Keep up the the good work, looks like you will have plenty of people interested in your idea. Hopefully enough so that the cost is minimal to those that want it.

Leon,
I see that your in Florida - I'm not sure if you have a C6, if so I will send you one to test, that is if you can have some days that you don't have a storm raging and the Vette can go out! Just to make it that much better I have modified the design to drop the plate 1/2 " which would give it more open space at the top. It will work! Let me know.

No C6 except the one I'm dreaming about. :) But if I had one and the attachment of the bracket was non invasive to the car I would be interested in one to help for testing purposes. Hell, why not have one on hand in case someone from out of state is interested in the car yet hates the OEM bracket. Could be a good selling point for those in states that don't require a front plate as well. :D
