I'm replacing the master cylinder on my 67 and purchased a Motive Products Power Bleeder to bleed the brakes. Is it necessary to first bench bleed the master cylinder when using a power bleeder? What is a safe pressure when using this thing?

Thanks,
Mike

I will have to look at the gauge on mine to see what pressure I bleed at, its not alot ,(I am thinking like 10psi or so or like 5 strokes) As for bench bleeding a new master it good practice to bleed it,But I dont think is needed.

MOST IMPORTANT

make sure your adapter on the master it on correct.the 2 holes must align with the 2 resivors. and the adapter must be square and secure.Dont just throw the chains on and tighten it because it will pull one side up and squish the other side down and youll have fluid all over the place. Take your time seting the adapter in place and all will be good

It is MANDATORY. If not you will never get the air out of the M/C.

I too use the Motive pressure bleeder on my 67 and IIRC I use about 10-15 psi and about 3-4 quarts of fluid for a full system flush/bleed.

It's a lot simpler to use a 6" C-clamp and a piece of square tubing (or a piece of wood) to hold the adapter on instead of the J-hook-and-chain arrangement that comes with it. I pump it to 10-15 psi - works great! :)

always bench bleed

and remember one drop of brake fluid on paint WILL leave a dime sized bare spot

Here's the bench-bleed setup; hoses/fittings etc. are in a blister-pack in the "Help" section at your FLAPS.

you know, I hear so often about being careful with brake fluid because it will take the paint off so quickly it makes me wonder why it's not used to strip paint off when you are going to repaint the car! ;LOL

John,

Not sure why the picture isn't showing, just getting a red x in a square. I would like to see your setup. Could you email it to me?

I do like the c-clamp idea and will try that instead of the chains.

Thanks everyone for your input.
