2000 Ford Ranger 4wd
Hi all, I've been lurking around on this forum for awhile now. I have been trying to figure out the best year corvette for me and my price range. So far i've came to the conclusion the 1993-1996 C4s fit me the best. Right now i drive a 4wd truck but since i'm going to college would like a car I can be proud of and is dependable. I have loved corvettes since I can remeber and even test driving one is like a dream. Ok i'm getting off topic, but I have been looking locally for a vette in the 10k-11k price range. Recently I found the perfect one it seems, Its a 1994 LT4 Blk/Blk 6 speed. Not only is my favorite color combination black on black i had to have a 6 speed. The car is in perfect condition but does have almost 130,000 miles, which is kind of steep. I think the average is around 93k for a 94. The car just seems so perfect and the man is thinking about trading me for my 2000 Ford Ranger 4wd, its a nice truck and worth around the same price. (97k miles) The vette i'm looking at is going for 11,000 or best offer, i figure i can get him to drop it at least 500 dollars, so the question is do yall think its a fair price? Is 11K or 10.5K bad for a 94' LT4 w/ 130k miles? I think its pretty reasonable but i'm not exactually positive. Also how many miles should i expect to get out of it before it starts becoming a money whole. (I'm never gonna street race or dog it either, and i have a daily driver so i'll try to keep the miles down.) How long do you think it will last me? Thx for all the info. i've learned from yalls post. :D :beer

There's something not right here. The LT4 was a one year engine and that year was 1996. So there is no such thing as a 1994 LT4.

Hello and welcome to the Corvette Action Center.....Good Luck on your Vette Search...

Greetings and welcome to the CAC. With my experience of having a Corvette while in College here are just a few things I would look at first. While in college you tend to move a lot from either dorm to dorm or dorm to apartments or frats. The Corvette can kind of restrict how much you can use your vehicle to move your items. Hope you have lots of friends. Also, at most colleges you do not have a full time garage. So the Corvette sits out in all weather conditions. Does this 94 have any leaks? If it hasn't rained recently ask the owner if you can rinse (but really poor) water on the car. Find any internal leaks. Could be bad weather stripping, or you might just find water floating in the floor board. I just recently saw a 92 and the passenger floor board was a mini-pool (not a mini-bar). Also with that kind of mileage on the LT1 (not LT4 as you posted, that was in the 96 only) find out what the owner has done to the car recently. When was the Opti Spark replaced along with plugs, wires, and water pump. Find any service records if you can. Also, what is the wear like on the tires? Are they going to need replaced soon? The LT1 6speed is a great setup, just take your time looking. Right now prices on Corvettes are creeping back up as Spring Fever is hitting most people. But there are still some good deals out there. Good Luck.

Sorry for the long post, just trying to give as much useful information as I could think of.

I'm sry i have been slack on the post lately, i've been gone all weekend. And yes I was aware that the LT4 was only a 96 option that is why this car scares me, not only that but it also has 136k miles... So i have now found a real LT4 in my area i'm looking at. here is a link to her page.

I called her today and she still has the car avalible, which is amazing (scary) because she has had the ad up for quite some time now... o well i'm gonna go test drive it with my madra and uncle (mechanic).

Also about the college thing, I believe i'm going to Midlands Tech now instead of USC even tho I got accepted b/c tech offers the same corses and is free for me b/c of my scholarships. By going to tech I mean, going there for two years then transfering over. Therefore room in the vette isnt going to be an issue and also parking it in the weather isnt either b/c i would leave it at home safe in the garage until i finished college two years later. (going to tech means living at home, btw)

Thx for all your input, i love this forum.

First of all, welcome to :CAC Sounds like a good idea to take a mechanic to look at it. I wouldn't worry about the ad being posted for a while, you'll know more once you look it over. With the C6 coming out, the prices of the C4 and C5 have dropped as some of these owners are trading up. That's good for people, such as yourself, looking for a great car at a great price. An LT4 for 12k seems like a pretty good price to me.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Jim

Lets back up your in school! So alot of your income is tied up right? Me I'd wait that vette tax is a SOB. When that water pump goes and it will go,you better run not walk to get it before it gets the opti. Mine killed my opti and can you say $$$$$ waterpump/opti/plugs/wires/serpbelt/change oil/fuelfilter.$2,396.00. Did I mention tires well lets see 200.00 plus for the fronts and 300.00 plus for the rear. O.K now little B.S like headlite motors/window motors/ 20 gallon tank and at $2.71 per gallon.Lets see insurance no tickets I hope.O.K breaks $130 for pads and thats for one wheel.Anything else???dude keep the truck till a little later unless you can swing it all cause these cars run a little more to own and operate than a civic:gap
