We have inherited the 69 that my brother-in-law bought new and have started the restoration process. When calling Mid-America to order a radiator they said they wanted the VIN and 'Date Code' and that the manfacturer/distributor would stamp it with the VIN and 'date code' to make it more authentic. Does this make sense and how can I be sure of these numbers. The VIN matches the original bill of sale so that's easy. The restoration shop says the 'date code' is K10 but I can't verify that and would like to be sure if this stamping detail is important. Would someone enlighten us as to the location, structure and meaning of this 'date code'? I have heard that the letter is the build month and that I should find two more numbers for the month and year of build but K10 doesn't fit this structure. The restorer has not dropped the tank to see if the build sheets are available but that should happen in a week. I also plan to order replacement build sheets from NCM for documentation (and because we're curious and excited to have them...). Some say the letter is the month and that Corvette doesn't start with 'A' for January. Other places say 'A' is January?? We're confused but anxious to get started! Thanks for any help!

Welcome to the :CAC

I'm sure you will find the answers to your questions here.

Welcome to the CAC! A great place to find out anything you need to know on that 69, just not from me. :)

kend,

I don't want to dampen your enthusiasm here, but it's not likely NCM will be much help with your 69 build sheet. Your car, like my 81 was built in St, Louis, when the plant closed, records went who knows where. As a result, the only build sheets that are available are for 81-present built in Bowling Green. As too date codes, there are several members that seem to be up on that kind of info so I expect that someone will jump in soon with an answer.
Welcome to the :CAC :w and good luck with your 69

kend,
The K10 represents the month/day. It is on the trim tag on the drivers side hinge post. The paint and trim codes are also on the tag. The K is the month, the 10 is the day of the month. A=first month of production (not January). First month of production for the '69 was Sep 68. So K would be Aug 69, or Aug 10, 1969.

Welcome Kend!

Enjoy the restoration process and welcome to Corvette Action Center.

Thanks to all for the welcome...

Especially to Tom for the good numbering info. I'll go to the restorer today and take pictures of the trim tag for reference. We'll order the radiator today and some body panels (for the front end) next week. Let the fun begin!

A K10 build date code for a '69 is June 10, 1969; it's on the trim tag riveted to the driver's side door hinge pillar.
