Hello, I am a new member from North Augusta, SC. Wow.....what a site! In all my years of the CORVETTE way of life I have never found a more interesting resource for information. I would stay here for days if I didn't have to pay the bills. Please don't change anything.....
Here's my problem: my '87 L98 has 43k act. miles and I just changed the original ignition system. New wires, plugs, distributor cap & rotor. I did not change the coil because it was in excellent condition. Since doing the work (assisted by another '87 owner) the speedometer reads while the motor is running, in park. There is also a loud hissing sound coming from the factory stereo when I turn it on. The fuses are all good. The motor runs strong and the new Delco parts were installed correctly. What gives?! How are the two related? Please help me, the car shows are near and I want to drive my wife's replacement!;help Thanks, Larry

When you replaced the ignition shield, did you reconnect the ground wire/cable?

Sounds to me like there is a ground wire loose or completely off somewhere. Maybe while you were working on the ignition a ground wire either was removed and overlooked when you put everything back together again, or possibly broken accidently while you were working. That's about all I can think of, but I'm sure that gmjunkie and/or c4c5specialist will have more to say.

i just checked all the external wires; they are all connected correctly. thanks

Thanks to All

Thanks to everyone who responded to my post. I went back to the old distributor cap and found the ground strap for the coil. It had been left off and it has since been reinstalled. Strangely the coil did not burn up; the motor runs good and strong like a Corvette motor should. While under the hood, the valve covers were pulled and refinished.....now comes the detailing! I will post new pictures of the motor when I finish in a few days.
Thanks again, Larry
