I found this forum about a week ago, and have picked up a good deal of info. I am currently doing a partial resto on a 72 lt1 for a guy and got curious if it was still all oem. most everything still looks good, but would like a little help with the engine id

here are the #'s on the front right side.

10L52164 T0416CNJ

The motor appears to have had some engine work, has a edelbrock intake, holly 750, believe its still solid lifter, but don't believe the cam is oem, ( it's got a rough idle, and likes to idle about 1100rpm). still has points style dist, and grear driven tach.

TIA

Welcome to the forum! I don't have my Black Book here at work so if nobody answers by the time I get home I'll look up the numbers for you. You might want to get in touch with Mike, aka: Stingray6974 as he's in Texas also and a mechanic that's well versed in Corvettes.

Thanks Ken, I was too tired when I got home to even turn the lights on, only 9 more days to go :(

It's a 350/300hp out of a '70 Camaro built at Van Nuys, California; engine was built April 16, 1970 at Tonawanda, New York. All Corvette small-blocks were built at Flint Engine in Michigan - Flint engines started with "V", Tonawanda engines with "T". :beer

Thanks John. I keep thinking that maybe someday I'll get a good book for all the numbers, but I rarely have need for that information. My Corvette is all non-numbers matching! :D

hmm thats interesting, now i am wondering what happened to the oem engine, anyone know what the stock torque on that engine would be? I noticed the plate on the console reads 390 ft/lbs of torque, 10.5:1 compression, but no mention of HP. I wonder if someone in the past was going for a sleeper vette?

I'll have to call the owner of this, he says he knows the orig. owner.

oh, is there way to tell if the vette was a factory 4 spd, or if this motor out of the camaro was hooked to a 4spd?

Thanks for all the help.;worship

In 72 GM only listed torque on the console for two reasons.
1. With all of the smog requirements (pump), in 72 it killed the HP.
2. The insurance industry was raising car insurance based on driver age and factory HP rating.

I think 71 was the last year for quite a while that anyone posted factory HP ratings.
