started up the new motor last night , started right up and let it run @ around 2000 for about 18-20 minutes . The problem is it will not idle when you take off the pedal..... I might be mistaken but isnt the idle air controls on the throttle bodys suppose to control this on info from the cars Computer ? The car idled fine before I took it down 4 months ago.....has anyone ever had their IACs go bad from not using the car ? I wouldnt think so , But I have seen stranger things .

Thanks

The IAC does control the cars idle...however, it only does so through the ECM after calulations done by sensor data sent to the ECM. (Temp sensor, O2 sensor, fuel pressure...ect). Make sure all the sensors are tightly connected. Also check for "any" vacuum leaks...this is a major contributor to high idle...and the ECM can only compensate for just so much. One more thing...take it for a ride and go above 30mph...computer has to learn.

You can test out your IAC's by unscrewing them one at a time, blocking the port and reconnecting them and observing the transit motion of the motors. They are servo motors, so the shaft should move in and out as they attempt to adjust the idle.
If they twitch, or barely move, they are bad.

Go back and check all of your vacuum lines. Maybe you misrouted a line such as the egr valve(if you're stock). If you're not sure, just disconnect the line to the EGR and block it just to see if there's a change. I don't think your Idle control valves are bad.

Idle

I just put a new motor in mine and it would not idle.I unplugged knock sensor and it idles now;shrug

Racer86y, this thread was last active in 2004. Just saying. :)
