I've been researching the topic of using todays oils (cheap all the way to Mobile 1) in vintage corvettes (midyears).

With that said what kind of oil are people using in thier 60s and 70s cars. Should I use Mobile 1 in my 67 and 68 tripower ?

A lot of people are using diesel oil in the older cars ;). the oil has more anti wear properties built in than the new oils .this is because of the cat converters on new cars get contaminated with the zinc etc :ohnoesthat was in the old blend. you can still use the synthetic oils and the new oils they all give good protection :upthumbsbut if it makes you feel better diesel oil is more like the old blend :beer Steve

...that's basically what i've read...the newer oils have less protection for older engines since they have less zinc, newer engine components being made of different alloys to compensate....

...given that i put MAYBE 500 miles on my # match block a year, i use either diesel oil or synthetic and throw in a bottle of GM Engine Oil Supplement (since i have a completely rebuilt engine with new cam and lifters, how much am i really losing if i don't throw in the EOS???)

I think I would use the diesel oil at least for break in:ohnoes . till the lifters and cam wear in and burnish their surfaces then switch, you would not need the whole can of eos to get protection a few ounces would make all the difference.:w steve

rottella or however its spelling is is one of them there are other companies that make oils of the same specs any one would work steve

for break in, i use straight 30w oil, no additives so all it does is lubricate, carrying away the heat

...also agree that i use half a bottle of eos for each oil change
