Hello everyone, I would like to start off by saying the Corvette is one of the finest automobiles ever produced :) . I have just joined, and I am proud to be part of this acton center. I own a 1994 Admiral Blue 6-spd. with targa top and 48,000 miles. I am having a problem and was hoping someone could help. My car is making a strange popping noise when I let off the clutch just before acceleration(feels like something is loose). It is most noticable in reverse. However I can still hear and feel it in other gears.I was thinking maybe a u-joint but I'm not sure, any ideas? Any response would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

I would say your on the right track, but it could also be and axle joint.
Welcome to the site. You will not be disipointed that you joined CAC there are many helpful people on the site.

Howdy

Welcome :CAC With the low milage and age of the car I would start by putting the car on a lift and lubricating all the bushings etc with rubber lube.

Your problem just might be a connection that has dried up and needs lubrication.

My .02 and what have you got lose but a few bucks for the lube. :cool

Oh dont forget the clutch pedal the shift lenkage. If it moves lube it.:J

Go for the cheap stuff first dont jump at the high dollar fixes first. On my Olds I replaced 4 racks in 20K. Everytime I turned the wheel it would crack and pop and feel rough. Could have sworn it was the rack. finally the rack manufacture called me and told me to check the splined shaft on the steering column for lubricant. Called my dealer and sure enough there was a SB for that and a kit to do it with. ;LOL :grouphug:

:w Hello and welcome to the Corvette Action Center.......I would check all the U-Joints and replace if needed....Enjoy !!

You might want to check your motor mounts also. Welcome to the CAC.

I'd bet U-joints.

jack the car up, leave it in gear, and spin each rear wheel back and forth to check the play.

Welcome to the CAC!

In my experience, the pop is related to bad U-joints.

While you're under there checking the U-joints, check the C-Beam bolts front and rear. They can work loose and cause some creaking also. If the front bolts are loose, the shifter will 'raise' up in your hand during hard acceleration - especially noticable in 2nd gear.

Can you tell where the noise is coming from? That may help to pinpoint the problem.

I think the u-joints tend to make a clank rather than a pop, so I believe it could be something loose rather than broken.

Thank you all for your suggestions. This weekend I plan to jack the car up and find out more info.I will keep everyone posted. Thank you.

Andrew.
