New Rotor suggestions

how difficult is it to change rotors?

Hi Dom -

Piece of cake. The hardest part is getting the emergency brake adjusted.

I just bought the sportbrakes.com drilled/slotted rotors for the coupe. They are zinc coated and look very nice.

I paid $261 delivered. got em on Ebay.

We'll see how it works out. The quality looks very good, and since the car is primarily my wifes beater, I am not too worried about warpage or cracking due to extreme use.

Keep in mind that I am replacing the factory rotors at 38k miles because THEY are warped. They are not drilled, slotted or otherwise "compromised" from OEM spec.

best regards -

I too have the factory rotors , but I love the look of the drilled and slotted. Plus I cant stand see all that rust every morning !!!

I doing it more for looks, but the functional gains are a huge plus

It just takes a breaker bar to get the two bolts that hold the calipers on loose. The rotors come right off the bearing hubs. The back ones are a little harder to do as the E-brake is in the drum behind the rotor. Pull it off nice and straight and the shoes won't bind in the drum. You may want to paint the centers of the rotors with high temp. engine paint.(everything except the braking surface) to avoid having them rust up. They will rust if not protected. Also the rotor surfaces will rust every time you wash them(at least the GM ones do), so drive it after washing to dry the rotor surfaces.

Do yourself a favor and stay away from stock rotors,
NAPA rotors are better than the cheesegrater rotors and last fine.

Just be gentle on them, they may warp
Usually it's a build up on the rotor. They rarely warp .

Hi Vettex2,
Please enjoy what you have, if NAPA rotors work for you, great. I just feel that a one time replacement takes precident over changing rotors two or three times in a vehicles life. I am the kind of guy who purchases a car then keeps the car until I cannot drive anymore. When you get to my age, laying under a car is not fun anymore, what with all the arthrytis you get when you get old. Enjoy being young, enjoy your vette.
