Last week my Bose Amps (2) started really acting up; so I decided to replace the whole system with an after market. Ran down to Circuit City this morning and had them install a Pioneer DEH 6600 and Infinity Speakers. They put 5002I, 5.25's in the front and 9603, 9X6's in the back. I talked to the installer for about 1/2 an hour before I let them do it, he assured me he had done several C4s and he would take his time and do it right. While he did, I don't know how he got those 5.25's in there, but he did and all the stock grills sit flush. More importantly it sounds 100% better then the old system

If you dont mind how much did they charge for the install? Also, how long did it take them?

I drive an 89 and the amps are going bad on the bose system. So I think its time to swap it because replacements seem kinda expensive considering I can get a better deal on different speakers from my friend.

Looks good, I have a 90 convert and I also have been thinking of going to after market swap. :upthumbs

Didn't charge me anything to install the h/u, part of a special they currently have. But they did charge me $90.00 to install the speakers. Total cost for the h/u, speakers and install, including tax, was 688.98. {edited: that price also included a 2 year warranty on all parts and labor.} Took them about 5 hours, I dropped my car off with them around noon and picked it up a little before 5pm.

Partspup, let me know if you take the plunge. Have the same car (mine has Bose Gold) will do the same for you if I am first.

Thanks

Yeah that looks very sweet, but I think I will attempt to do it myself as I hate other people working on my vette.

I'm like you and was going to do it myself, until they told me they could get the 5.25's in the doors and still make it stock. Figured the cost out weighed the fustration/hastle of me trying to cut the box to get them to fit. Also, after talking to the installer and manager, I felt comfortable leaving it with them -- and as it turned out, I was right.

Is that the stock rear location for the speakers? In my 88 they are more to the side. I like where they are in your car.

Those are the stock locations

Looks like a nice, clean installation. I put Infinity speakers all the way around in my car too, I got 6.5" to fit in the doors, the stereo sounds awesome but the speaker grilles wouldn't fit. I was going to make my own, but instead I turned the stock ones around, covered the back side with speaker grille cloth, and mounted them backwards. There is just enough angle in the grille to accommodate the tweeter.
