New tires

I can't imagine ever going back to runflats :ugh

Why? I am trying to figure out why some guys like runflats and others don't. So, please tell me.

Thanx,

Two words: ride and noise.

Yea, I will go with the [Michelin A/S Sports next time, R/F's for me. Don't want to test my flat fixing skill on the side of road. LOL

I've never had to do a roadside repair per se
The TPMS always told me what was going on long before there has been any issue.
I did pull into a gas station once and plugged a tire on the way home from the races .

If you don't drive the car in cold weather or snow (like many of us in the northeast), I would think that the PS2's would offer better handling than the A/S's. And, I would think that the stiffer sidewalls on the Goodyear's would offer better handling and control than the "softer" sidewalls of the Michelein's. Now, if ride and comfort is your main concern, I guess, the Michelein's would be the way to go. Of course, if you are really interested in comfort and ride maybe a Cadillac instead of the Vette would have been the better choice. I realize that Vette's have a special appeal and that most Vette owners don't race um, so, I can see the desire for the softer less noisy ride of the M's. Just saying.....

Excellant replacement run-flats question ?

I have four original runflats on my 2003 and I would love to get rid of the GY's but last year I had a faulty one from the factory/ right front tire replaced $500.00, It had a very slow leak. And on the way home from my August annual state safety inspection & oil / filter change I ran over something in the road that cut through the LR tire, and I had to buy a new left rear $600.00 and then I was out for a cruise last November and guess what, Yep, the right rear was cut by a sharp hunk of metal which I never heard or saw, but the outcome was once more, a new right rear $600.00. So the car has 14K miles on it only the left front is orginal from the Bowling Green installed tire ?

So, here is where I need help, I would really like to go for a full set of the Michelin Pilot sports PS2 ZP. I have heard so many great reports on them from folks who have switched over to the Michelin's, but my question is what do I do with 4 Godyear runflats with very low mileage on them once I spent the $1500.00 for a new set Michelin PS2 ZP's ? Thank you ! :w

Actually I am thinking about the ZP's, but I like the looks of the GY F-1's, I don't race, except on the freeways, like everyone else. and there is no money in that unless I get a speeding ticket. and thats not for me....

other RF brands

I'm another northern invader of the South- lived most of my 60+ years in upstate NY and moved to NC 3 years ago- mostly to get away from what all you guys up north are having now and have had for last 2-3 months.
As for RF's- I just got my first C5- a 2000 Vert 6Spd, and dealer I bought thru put on new tires but they are fronts- Pirelli P-Zero and rear- Yokohama somethings-AVS ?? all in stock sizes but both say "runflat" on the sidewalls.

Way different treadwear ratings, but both A for traction. Anyway- when ther rears wear out in a year or two (160 treadwear rating) I'll probably try to match up the rears with the front Pirelli's. Unless they are gone too- which they may be if Pirelli doesn't make a better tire than my last experience but that was let's see.....1972 or so so maybe that doesn't count any more.

anyway since I've only had C4's and C3's this C5 and RF stuff is gonna be a real new experience for me. But seeing as it's my first C5 I don't know from good ride, bad ride, and the tires seem fine right now- only gonna be driving on roads, my AutoX days have been over for at least 10-15 years. I'm sure I'll be learning a lot in next few months here and other Vette forums, but have also dealt with TireRack for many many years, and have never been burned by them and they seem to have very knowledgeable staff. I'm sure between the members on forums and the TR guys everybody can get the exact right tires for their vette and style of driving.

save the Wave guys:w

Ok, got a quote today from discount tire,$ 1907, thats PS2 ZP's with new TPM's. I will have to watch every step of the way and make sure they do it right.:beer
