I am about to make my first "new" corvette purchase in many years. I currently own a C1 and C2. I am buying a 2002 vert with less then 2K miles with the LS1 and all options that were available, including the 6spd. Feel free to express pros and cons of the C5 from personal experience, including problems and dealer response. Thanks in advance.

After two months of C5 ownership and previous ownership of a C3....

The biggest con to a C5 is the current price of aftermarket hi-po goodies.

Other than that, its an outstanding car. I really like the fact that C5s have a diagnostic mode that the owner can access WITHOUT a scan tool. I nearly wasted a lot of money buying an Auto-tap system to be able to do the same thing the factory diagnostic function serves. Ignorance is expensive and the information is free!!

The handling allows the car to be a daily driver.

So does the ease of entry.

I got used to the C4 in terms of style. I really liked the 91-96 bodies the best. So, they were the first Vettes I looked at when I was looking at getting a newer Vette. I drove a C4 and a C5 back to back. The C4 was a great car, but for me the C5 was the winner. It just handles like its on rails. Between the ease of entry, handling, tight suspension feel, and the incredible amount of room inside the car I just knew the C5 was the car for me.

I wanted a Vette to drive. Everyday if I wanted to. In snow, rain, and adverse conditions. Why? Because everyday you can drive your Vette is a GREAT day.

Great choice.

Having owned 4 coupes (C4 and C5), our 2003 vert is a special pleasure. While we don't treat it as a daily driver, it could be.

Great fun, great mileage, great way to meet people, great fun - I said that already.
You get the idea.

Congrats! My 03' Vert is my first but i have loved Vettes since i can remember. I think that the hardest thing about owning a C-5 is finding the right dealer to handle warranty work. I used to live in Delaware and was a member of the 1st State Corvette Club (an awesome organization). I had a noise and a leak that i wanted the dealer to look at. Let me tell you first of all, i am very particular with all of my vehicles but the Vette... Well, lets just say this... i take very good care of her. When i picked up my "Maria" at this Dover dealership. There were fingerprints all over the body, my memory settings were all screwed up. This was enough for me to never, ever go back to that dealer again. I am glad that i didn't allow them to sell her to me. Long story (sorry) short, i think that is the hardest thing about owning a C-5 Vert. Now, the best thing! Driving my coupe with the top stowed on a beautiful sunny California afternoon. Almost everyone looks at the Black/Black Vert. That is the best in my opinion. Again, congrats on your new Vette. :w

I have had two C5s... Seemed to be several bugs in the earlier models (97-99) you are doing the right thing by going with a newer one with little bugs.

Enjoy your Corvette.

Hi skyman,
The C5 rocks major league. I have a 2003 with the Z51 suspension and the G92 rear end. I am not a sports car guy, but this has converted me. I orginally bought the Vette because it is the 50th MY. Now, driving has become a pleassurre that I want to enjoy as much as I can. Pop the top, crank up the tunes, and just drive.

Skyman,

I've owned five new Corvettes over the years - starting with a 1965 396/425HP roadster (this gives you some idea how old I am) and ending with my current 2001 convertible. The C5 is far superior on every level. It's fast, comfortable, nimble and delvers great gas milage. You can drive it all day and still want to drive some more.

I agree with all of you! Though I certainly love my Grand Sport, the 2002 is what we love to take on long trips...comfort, speed, great handling and super mileage!!
