'75 White L48
Hey everyone. I just recently purchased a '75 L48 and I am loving it. I found this site and a want to thank everyone for all the good info. You all seem to know your stuff. That being said, if it's not to much trouble I would love to get some questions I have answered. And I have lots. But I'll start with the basics right now. Please note I'm asking here because I have done some searches and haven't found the answers and I am also interested in the opinions of you die hard Corvette enthusiast's.

Here we go:

The car is currently white and the paint code is10L. Is white this cars original color? The interior is Oxblood (I think, its burgandy. I have never seen a bleeding ox but I assume it would look like this.) and the trim code is 73V. Is that the original interior? I'm guessing it is because it looks thirty years old but I'm not sure.

It also came with a luggage rack but it currently isn't installed. I believe I read that these did not come from the factory but where in fact installed at the dealership. Is this correct? I'm not so interested in getting it back to factory specs, it's just I'm not so sure I want to have it on there. I'm curious as to others idea's about the luggage rack.

Looking forward to some answers.

Ryan

Here's a pic of my '76 L48......Shot the luggage rack a color that contrasts with the car. Looks very sleek.

According to the black book 10L is Classic White(8007 produced).73V is dark red vinyl.Luggage racks were a dealer installed item.Post some pictures.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll see what I can do about posting some pictures. I know even less about computers then I do Corvettes so it may take me some time.

I like the painted luggage rack Andy. That really gives me something to think about. Thank you.

Thanks for the info sharkcar71. One more question. Were most C3's equipped with the luggage rack? It seems as if every picture of one I see has one.

wlcome to CAC!!! hope you enjoy the vette and the forums!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All C3's DID NOT have luggae racks...Also, their are different size hole patterns for luggage racks..be wary if you have one that came from the factory vs trying to replace it. I ran into that problem. My rack was a bit pitted...so i bought a new one.....when i went install it before i havd the car repainted, the holes didn't align properly with the factory holes!! I therefore, kept the old rack on, and had it shot Black, which was the thing to do in the first place.

Good Luck..

Andy's right about the aftermarket unit. Did that once on a car I was flipping and had to putz with it before it sold. My '75 does not have one and I would have removed it if it had, just personal preference. The paint idea sounds good if you have one that is not in great shape.

The amount of storage I have without one is limited to behind the seats, where I store the t-tops along with cleaning supplies, 2 lawn chairs, extra clothes, and cooler. No room to buy anything on the road or clothes for a weekend, unless it goes on the floor between Momma's feet. She had to carry a bunch of stuff in her lap for over 100 miles that I bought at a swap meet! Other times we have had to put the tops back on, even with temps in the 80's to get home. The rack would have been handy at those times. I'm designing a tow-behind trailer that will go with us to shows, because there is just too much for two of us in the car with all the extras on show days, especially if we hit 2-3 shows in a weekend.

If you want the rack, I would say paint it or powdercoat it.
