New to the Web - Restoration of Grand Sport #004

Thank you Bob, it's fun reading history on these cars and seeing the level of detail done during a restoration, especially when pictures are included showing the details.

Beautiful car.

Ohhh, man....

Gee, that article is great. I really like that 4 Weber setup.

Thank you for sharing.

Bob, what a meticulous restoration of a magnificent car, and fabulous documentation of the process and the car's history! I'm drooling! I've always been a Grand Sport freak, and built a tube-frame D&D replica in 1996, finished as #003 appeared at Sebring 1964 (Foyt/Cannon). Thanks for the memories! :D

wow. I cannot even begin to understand the time and money necessary for a restoration of that detail. Glad to know someone out there has the resources and interest to do so. Thanks for sharing.

Bob,

Welcome to the CAC. Thanks for posting the link to your site. I can't wait to read the whole thing. I too have a Grand Sport replica but unlike John's my replica of #004 with the #80 on the side is 1:16 scale. It's still cool though. Thanks for sharing.

WOW

The idea of making the molds,Actually the building of the molds is absolutley increadable. The car is one thing and I dont mean to minamize it.but the work thats being done to re-create an EXCACT car is really some very interesting engineering.

I understand the cost's assoceated with restoring/building a car.But I just could not fathom what a project like this would run,No less to then race the car.

Thanks for sharing

Welcome to CAC that is incredible, I have always been intrigued by the Gran Sport and what could have been if Zora hadn't been stopped by the bean counters. Will the car be displayed anywhere in the future, I would love to see one in the flesh.

I saw the 10 Penske car (001) many years ago at Bloomington when it was red and owned by Jack Buxbaum from the Chicago area. Looked and sounded awesome. I have seen it several times since it was restored to Penske livery but it has the short windscreen. Just looking at some pics of the Mc Dorman collection and there it is setting among his cars.(Check out the March page of your Mc Dorman calander) I knew it could be bought a couple times over the years but I lost tract of it. Also I saw it raced at the vintage races at Mid Ohio back in the late '90s. It ran in the exhibition class with cars like Vic Edelbrocks Z06 but that didn't mean they babied it or the other cars out at the time. To the contrary; they run 'em hard. At that time, for a fee, you could be an official member of the race team.

I would like to see some of the others sometime too.

Corvette GS

Words cannot say enough about this fantastic Corvette. Thanks for the article and everyones comments and posts. Love reading them all. WOW ! Save the Wave>>George

BTW, you guys should know that both of the Grand Sport roadsters (#001 & 002) live here in Cincinnati.

We frequently have VERY nice Corvette displays at the Ault Park Concours in June.

Like 2003: http://www.ohioconcours.com/2003/ccr.htm

The C5-R (#001), '57 Sebring Winner and "Stars & Stripes" all live here, too.

That is a great album Bob. it looks like I need to make the trek to Cincinnatti this year.

I hope it is not the same time as our Cruise fest I can't be in two places at once :L do you have a date set for this years? June will be a busy month for me FCCC has their show and shine the first weekend and Cruise-fest at the last one :D

Craig,

CruiseFest is the 9th, 10th and 11th.

Well, going to the home page of that Concours site (which I started in 1999 but no longer manage) says this year's show will be on Sunday, June 12, 2005.

Be advised though that this is not a "just show up with what ya got" show so the Grand Sports may or or may not be there this year. Depends on what the entry chair has in mind for this year.

The website has, in years past, published a listing of cars scheduled to appear ahead of time (April or May).

It's a great show for a good cause.

That would be great timing we can leave Bowling Green early Sunday AM and stop in Cincy on the way home to see the Concours.

Welcome aboard the CAC, Bob. If you haven't already, check out our History, Tech Center and other tabs (at the top of the page) and enjoy our extensive virtual library of Corvette reference material!!
