Hey, all! This looks like a great site. IH2LOSE turned me on to this. I hope to put a high performance motor in my '62. I was thinking of a 502, or a 427, but I'm worried about the problems I might face, like space under the hood, and headers. A 350/383 fast burn motor might be a better bet. Has anybody used or heard of this engine, or the 502 RamJet? I'm not sure I really want to modify the hood with a scoop. I'd appreciate some advice. Thanks
Dan

Hi Dan, Welcome to the :CAC I'm sure someone with an answer to your question will arrive soon.

Dan welcome aboard And thanks for coming over.Give it some time and the fellows here will reply with some information.

I am so close to making a deal on a 1961 that I plan on installing a tube frame and a big block.
I just recentley aquired the motor for the car (A LS6 GM grate motor from the 90'S ) My original plans were for the 502 motor but this one just fell into my lap.I know of at least 3 guys over here with b/b c1's

For me the only way is a big block I love the torque of the big cube motors.

This is a link to a post I had made when I first arrived here

Hello Dan, welcome to the Corvette Action Center..:w Park your 62 over there by that Red Honda carring that big airplane wing....... ;LOL and come on inside and read a few and maybe even post one or two. Great people as well as their Vetts in here....Here you go>>>>:m The Lawman Said That....:D

A 434 SBC would fill your needs and is an easier conversion.Use EFI to solve the hood clearance issue
500 hp 600 tq should be easily attainable with off the shelf parts.
Be ready to replace everything behind it if you are going to use the power. I've been down this road and speak from experience.:D

Dan, Welcome to the CAC! :w
Do you have pictures of your 62 that you could share with us?

Big Block

Thanks for the responses. What is a 434 SBC, where could I get one, and, do I have to upgrade the trans and rear?
I wasn't sure if the RamJet would be higher than a carburated motor. I would like to make it fuel injected.
Dan

Take A Look

Hi and welcome. If you look at my signiture pictures below you see an L88 hood scoop on a 62 hood. I like it a lot and get a lot of compliments on it, it "almost" looks like it belongs. Although I'm running a small block it was needed because of the intake and carb. There's a few BB C1's floating around in here and lots of knowledge to help you out with the transplant. Keep us posted and the pictures.

Well, I don't suppose anybody sees a picture here. I tried. I even cut the picture down to 56 kb, which, in itself, is a crime against my baby. Then to be snubbed by a web site...The horror! She'll never recover. I will try again, though. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. Any suggestions? I just don't want to dissappoint her again...

Rowdy 1 I think I met you at Sonny's in Augusta last year. I think that is my old hood on your car. You bought it from a guy named Jim in Greenwood Lk right ? If not there is a car identical to yours in NJ.

What are your needs in an engine ?

A 434 small block can be assembled by any good machine shop. You are looking at about 10K if you start from scratch with all top of the line components.

A budget 406 can be built that will show most big blocks your taillights. I had a 400 rwhp 406 in my 62 and was running 11.40's
You should be able to assemble something like this for less than 3k

The ramjet 350 will fit under the hood if you modify part of the inner brace in the center of the hood.

The driveline will need to be upgraded if you are hard on the car or race it. I had a Dana 60 rear and an M22 in my car. For regular driving with no hard launches or speed shifting you SHOULD be okay.

Decisions Decisions Decisions:D

you should have been fine at 56K, the limit is 65k. were you attaching a file, or uploading to the members gallery?

That would be me. I "think" I remember, were you driving a 53 or 54?

To Mrs. Schroder

Attaching a jpg file. I will try again. I will also try to send one to the gallery.
