New wheels for my C5

I bought a set of chrome C6 wheels (off of ebay) for my C5 02 vert, and made arrangements for a tire service to take the EMT tires off of my stock C5 wheels, and put them on the C6 wheels. The dealer was afraid they would damage the EMT, run flat, tires, and said they would not risk the damage. They said they have only had one set changed that was not damaged, and usually one or two are damaged while taking them off the stock rims. Anyone else have this problem? Did you have to buy a new set of tires? What tires would you recommend? Thanks

In my area, many of the tire dealers don't even have the equipment but the Chevy dealers do, so after some inquiries, I took my new rims to a local Chevy dealer. They did a great job, re-trained the sensors and boxed up my old rims. I would not have gone to any Chevy dealer until I found someone who went before me ;).

Good Luck.

Yes tires can be damaged but to me it sounds like the tire store wants to sell you some new tires. :eyerole

Don't C6's have larger wheels than C5's? ;shrug

I'd go with Firestone Firehawks or Michelin Pilots. The Goodyear's aren't bad tires but a lot of people say they have their share of road noise.

Later . . . . . .

The C6 rims are sized for a C5, 17 x 8.5 and 18 x 9.5 inch wheels. They came from Tomz Wheels in Texas sold on ebay. I will check with the local Chevy dealer to see if they are willing to do the work. The tire center that said they would be damaged, has the special equipment to change large rims, but I guess they were afraid of damaging my tires. I will have to look for a set of tires. Thanks for the replies

If you have a Discount Tire in your area they are great. I do all my tire business with them and have never had one problem. Also if you have a NTB in your area they are good too.

I guess they will never fix a flat.......:eyerole

I have used Americas Tire with good results. Check with the local Vette shop to see if they have recommendations on tire shops.

I've used the local Goodyear shop many time. Twice for patches. Twice to mount some EMT M&S on my winter wheels, and again to mount EMT F1s on my summer chrome. I've never had an issue with them.

TireRack.com has a shop locator on their site. Will give you a heads up of tire shops in your area equipped and with trained staff to mount & balance your EMT's on those C6 rims.

I changed wheels a couple of years ago and reused the stock runflats - no issues. Went to a Goodyear Tire Store
